Spurscast #270: The "Big" issue

Written by Michael A. De Leon on .

On this episode of the Spurscast, Jeff and I talk about the latest San Antonio Spurs news, with a focus on the Spurs losing out on both Kenyon Martin and Chris Kaman.

The Spurs could use another big body in the post, and with Martin heading to the Clippers and the Hornets changing their mind about Kaman, the Spurs have limited free agent options, but could still try to make a move before the trade deadline.

Once you hear our thoughts on the topic, be sure to sound off in the comments section with your thoughts.

I agree with you on both of those trades. The bottom line is Blair needs to go and Anderson, at this point is expendable. I think that wee are a championship caliber team, but we need more size to put us over the top. I must say this, the league is not ready for us when Manu comes back. We lost some early games cause Pop was gettin our bench ready and resting our older legs and Tony has put to rest all the rumors that he needs to be traded. " The damn spurs"

I like us trading Blair and James Anderson for Robin Lopez of the suns. James Anderson doesn't play that much but has some potential the suns might want and Blair is just to undersized. Lopez would take up alot of room down low and grab some boards. Another trade that I would like is Ronny Turiaf of the Wizards for Matt Bonner and James Anderson. Turiaf is a good rebounder and defender and Knows Tony Parker from the French National Team.

I still think we need another big body to put us over the top. I like trading RJ for Marvin Williams of the hawks. We might have to throw in a couple other parts like some of that talent we have overseas but I am willing to do that. RJ gives atlanta a shooter that they so desperately needs and it gives us a upgrade as well. At 6'9'' 240 he can play small and power forwared. That helps against big athletic forwards like a Anthony, Lebron, Dirk, Amare, and even to give Kobe different looks. As a power forward alongside Tim he adds a baseline and foul line jump shot. He would give us more options than Blair. Another trade could be Blair, Joseph, and anderson for Jason Thompson of the kings. I know we are giving up alot but the payoff could be alot greater. Blair is too small, Anderson looks to be in his final year with the team and Joseph most likely will be sent back down. Moving forward after Tim, Thompson and Splitter is a better look than Splitter and Blair. Going back to the kings I like Donte Green for Joseph and Anderson. At 6'11'' and listed as a small forward he could could provide help in many areas. Defensively we would be great at power forward since most power forwards since most of them are quick. I only worry about his rebounding ,but I am sure that we can get him where he needs to be and plus it helps to go from a losing team to a championship team. My last is kinda a toss up but I was surprised that we didn';t pick this guy over Joseph and that is Jeremy Tyler. At 6'10 260 he is a better project than Joseph. Yes he had some issues and growing pains but he has never been coached by the greatest coach of all time. I think him learning from Tim would be huge and plus he is something like De andre Jordan. Just raw talent. I think that we could trade for him by using Anderson or one of our overseas guys. One thing about Tyler is that you can't teach size.

How is Malcolm Thomas doing with the toros? After a fruitless effort to get KMart or Kaman, isn't it time to reassess the performance of Thomas again? It has been a while when he was assigned to the d-league. He is 6'9", good for small or power forward. He can hehp to defend the interior. Or try for Derrick Favors. The jazz has many big guys.
