Spurscast #266: All about RJ...again

Written by Michael A. De Leon on .

On this episode of the Spurscast, I'm back with Jeff to talk about Richard Jefferson.

No, seriously, we really did.

We discussed the possibility that RJ may be here to stay. After the rumors and reports the San Antonio Spurs would use the amnesty clause on Jefferson, the Spurs have watched as several coveted small forwards have signed with other teams.

If the Spurs do not sign Josh Howard, the most likely scenario is that Jefferson gets to unpack his bags. On the bright side, the Spurs will have someone that already knows the offense and defense.

Listen to our opinions on Jefferson and be sure to chime in with your own in the comments.

dalembert wants more $ than we can offer.

I am actually releived that we have RJ back. He is way better than some of the options we were looking at like Howard, Dunleavy, etc. I would have liked Butler...maybe Hill better. Time to stop hating on rj I guess.

Can't understand why everybody is on Rj's case. He played most of last year (except the playoffs). Why would you pay $30 million for nothing (really)? They need a big not a SF. I wonder if ppl who comment on these blogs know basketball at all.

D-league players, Welcome to the spurs. Three of them could be small forward, a point guard and a pf/c. Luck must be on their side. With all the propective sf, Green and Leonard must be rejoicing. Really, even with Jefferson out, the coaching staff must have confidence of their own.

Again I will ask what happened to troy murphy in new jersey and boston. He was good for GS. He's not a defender but he's 6'11'' and at least until last year he could score. duncan could move to the 5. I can't imagine he would be expense. maybe a 2 year deal.

@mjs2377 Troy used to be a rich mans Matt bonner, now Matt is better at everything then Troy is. On top of that he is rumored to be about to sign with lakers

so just a thought, either howard is going to let us know something tonight/tomorrow or his offer was no more then 3 mil because to be more then the MMLE he knows the spurs have until tomorrow to amnesty RJ. now if howard came AND we kept RJ that would be interesting.

I think instead of the spurs focusing on Josh Howard we should go get a big man like a samuel Dalembert or some other defensive big. But it seems that they're not focused on that so if it is between RJ and Josh Howard I would go with Josh Howard but we could win with RJ if we added a defensive force inside to go along with Duncan

You are right on the money i been looking at dalembert as well he plays defense and can still block shots. I think tiago will do much better but we need another big to fill the void of dyss

The deal with RJ is i dnt hate him... he stays healthy and has good attitude i do not think we should amnesty unless were gonna sign a really good veteran "there are no good FA out there". At the end of the day RJ knows the system and his role and chemistry in the looker is good but Josh Howard would be a good pick up if he gets back to playing like he used to in dallas and stays healthy that is what i would do.

@JeffProjectSpurs the real questions about him, his health, is a big factor. he is pretty much 2 ppg less them rj, and just slightly better rebounding but a much better defender. the thing is, is it worth picking him up, broken hand and all to save a little money? waive RJ and sign him for a low salary to get similar production BUT what if his hand doesnt heal quickly or not well at all. i always liked his game and his style of play and avery johnson says he was very coachable and a good kid so thats a plus but man im on the fence. the lack of movement is typical spurs front office but man its kinda bugging me a bit. on one hand they won 60 games with pretty much this roster, they had injuries at the exact wrong time and manu with a broken arm but still you just feel like...... damn we are missing out. i think we need a big, but not as bad as some OTHER PEOPLE think we need a big. if splitter (who did fairly well against the griz in his limited time) can progress this season then why sign a big, if he cant or doesnt then trade him this year and get someone who can help.

ok rant/book is over.
