Mavs' eyes on Splitter?

Written by Kyle Boenitz on .

This summer, Tiago Splitter becomes a restricted free agent. I know quite a few San Antonio Spurs fans who would have told you last year that they were looking forward to the day when Splitter could leave the Spurs for another team.

However, after improving on all of his numbers this year, almost as if he were auditioning for free agency, Splitter has become a lot more valuable to the team. Those that wanted Splitter gone might now be changing their tune.

Tiago made $3.9 million this year, but after working his way into the starting rotation and putting in some quality minutes, you can bet he’s due for a pay raise. The market will dictate his price, but everyone knows that big men can get a lot more because quality post players have become rather scarce these days.

So who has their sights set on landing the Brazilian big man?

Hanga continues breakthrough campaign

Written by Gábor Zsivera on .

Editor's Note: Gábor Zsivera, who is the chief editor over at Hungarian basketball site starting5.hu, and follows Spurs draftee Adam Hanga very closely, has agreed to contribute reports on Hanga every other week for Project Spurs. While we try to follow the international players the San Antonio Spurs have rights to frequently, we thought this was another great option for our readers to get regular updates from someone who is closer to all the action and covers it regulalry.

Adam Hanga has stepped up lately in the number one domestic basketball league of Europe as he was selected to the All-Star Five of the month of April in the Spanish ACB League by solobasket.com.

The Spurs draftee (2011, 59th overall) posted 18 points per game in that period, which was the second best performance in the the league. The Hungarian guard finished 2nd in the MVP rankings in April and he was named the best shooting guard of the month as well.

Right after his MVP of the week performance, he scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds, handed out three assists, had two steals and one block against CAI Zaragoza, but he couldn't help his team, Basquet Manresa to win on the road (89-62).

Green talks about guarding Curry

Written by Kyle Boenitz on .

After looking like a superhero in Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs, scoring 44 points and hitting six three-pointers, Stephen Curry has come back to earth a little bit. He’s still averaging a little over 20 points a game in the last three, but the Spurs have clearly found a way to slow him down a little bit.

Part of that success can be attributed to the defense of Danny Green. Curry’s numbers when Green has been guarding him are way below his average. Green has accepted his new role as Steph Curry’s shadow and is excited for the opportunity to continue.

Spurs back to square one

Written by Jesse Blanchard on .

If it appears the San Antonio Spurs took a step back in Game 4 after their domination in Game 3, it’s because four games into the series both teams are right back where they started.

The Game 1 the Golden State Warriors gave away was given right back by the Spurs in Game 4, blowing an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter in what will now be known as the "Mother’s Day Meltdown." The series is once again tied at two apiece, with the Spurs retaining home court advantage in what amounts to a best-of-three series.

As wasted an opportunity as Game 4 seems, the San Antonio Spurs do not return home without a few lessons gleaned from the first four games of the series.

Lakers' World Peace goes crazy for Tony Parker's 'magical' shoes

Written by Jose Grijalva on .

If you thought Metta World Peace just reserved his "out there" behavior for the basketball court, then you haven't done yourself justice by visiting his Twitter page.

After the San Antonio Spurs' Game 3 victory against the Golden State Warriors, World Peace had this to say about a Spurs' shoes.

I think Tony Parker's shoes have magical powers. I want to interview Tony Parker's shows on a network. I need answers. He was like Iron Man! (@MettaWorldPeace)

Spurs go silent in overtime, fall to Warriors in Game 4

Written by Paul Garcia on .

With 4:49 remaining in the fourth quarter, the San Antonio Spurs were less than five minutes away from taking a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Golden State Warriors Sunday in Oracle Arena.

Then, the Spurs held an 80-72 lead over the Warriors, but a change was coming for the silver and black. In those final 4:49 minutes the Spurs went cold and were outscored 12-4 as the Warriors forced overtime.

Once overtime began, the Spurs fell silent as Jarrett Jack and the Warriors outscored the Spurs 13-3 to win game four 97-87 and tie the series at two games apiece.

"They're a bunch of Warriors,” said Warriors coach Mark Jackson after the game, “no pun intended." Jackson’s Warriors had an early five point lead but then the Spurs were able to build their lead up to 11, where they held a 7-9 point lead for a majority of the game.

"One thing I know,” said Jackson of his team, “this team will not lay down. They won't quit. It looked dark. It looked awfully dark, but we found a way."

5 things to watch: Spurs vs. Warriors Game 4

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

The San Antonio Spurs (6-1) will look to put a stranglehold on their Semifinals series versus the Golden State Warriors (5-4) today in Oakland.

The Spurs are coming off an impressive 102-92 win over the Warriors in Game 3 in Oakland. Tony Parker had a monster game leading the team with 32 points and five assists. However, Parker was hobbled a bit when he took a knee from Jarrett Jack to his calf but should be good to play in Game 4.

Warriors' Stephen Curry also tweaked his left ankle in Game 3 and is a game-time decision for Game 4.

And as the Spurs look to take  commanding lead over the Warriors, here are five things to watch for in Game 3:

• Tony Parker scored 32 points at Golden State in Game 3 which marked his 75th career postseason game to score 20-or-more points.

• The Spurs are 3-0 on the road in the postseason when leading after the first quarter.

Parker says he has a copyright on the teardrop

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

Most NBA players have a go-to shot whether it the bank-shot a la Tim Duncan or the "sky hook" made famous by Kareem Abdul Jabbar. For San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker it has been the "teardrop" shot.

Since arriving in the NBA at the ripe old age of 19, TP has been going to the shot whenever he gets into the lane.

He drives, lofts it high, has the ball sail over the big men in the paint with a high arc for the basket. For years, he has tormented shot-blockers with the teardrop that many fans associate his with the move.

Currently, Parker and Stephen Curry are fighting it out in the West semifinals and both have effective teardrop shots, however, Parker will like to let you know, he is the originator of the move.

Injury bug bites Parker, Curry in Spurs’ Game 3 victory over Warriors

Written by Paul Garcia on .

After losing home-court advantage in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs on Wednesday, San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker had an interesting comment regarding the series between the Spurs and Golden State Warriors.

“If you want to win in the playoffs,” said Parker after game two, “you have to win on the road.”

Parker and the Spurs did just that Friday night as the series shifted to Oracle Arena where ESPN added a noise meter to track the volume in the arena. Only on Friday, the noise meter never had a chance to rise often as the Spurs controlled the tempo and momentum for almost 48 minutes of the game.

"It's a huge win for us,” said Parker (32 points, 5 assists) of defeating the Warriors 102-92. “It was a must-win situation. I thought our team was very focused. By far our best game of the series."

Though the game was competitive, the injury bug bit both squads Friday night. Warriors guard Stephen Curry (16 points) sprained his ankle in the fourth quarter and was limping excessively. He finished the game, but was hobbling the entire way.
