The San Antonio Spurs pulled out 89-88 victory in Los Angeles against their Western Conference rival Los Angeles Lakers in dramatic fashion thanks to Spurs' Antonio McDyess' game winning tip.

The game was everything a fan could hope for when these two teams match up but in this contest, Spurs fans were treated to a miracle shot and a the thrilling conclusion brought to you by Spurs' Gary Neal and McDyess.

"I was in the right place at the right time, and it bounced right to me."

Those were the words by San Antonio Spurs veteran forward Antonio McDyess, following the Spurs' 89-88 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center.

With 2.1 seconds left in the ball game, Tim Duncan shot a 16-foot fade away-jump shot over Lakers (34-16) forward Pau Gasol. The ball hit the rim once and bounced upward, immediately Antonio McDyess tipped the ball in the basket with 0.1 seconds left to win the game.

After having one of his worst games of the season in Portland on Tuesday night (6 points on 3-11 shooting), Spurs guard Tony Parker bounced back to lead the team in Los Angeles with 21 points.

Lakers forward Pau Gasol led the Lakers with 19 points and 7 rebounds. He also made the last two Lakers' points by sinking two crunch-time free throws.

The game began with both teams exchanging baskets early. Spurs' forward Richard Jefferson scored 10 points (2-3 from behind the arc) in the first quarter and guard Gary Neal closed the quarter with a buzzer beating shot. The Spurs led 22-18 after the first.

The Lakers found a sufficient rhythm in the second quarter as they went on a 6-0 run and built a 7-point lead (40-33). With back-to-back buckets from Tony Parker and an “and-1” running layup from Manu Ginobili; the Spurs were able to tie the Lakers at halftime 42-42, ending the quarter on a 9-2 run.

It was the kind of game expected between the two top teams in the league, down-the-wire finish, last second game winning basket.

81.8 - The Lakers shot fairly well from the foul line making 18-22 (81.8%) free throws. The Spurs on the other hand made 13-17 (76.5%) of their foul shots.

24 - The Lakers shared the ball better, dishing 24 assists compared to the Spurs' 20.

Through Wednesday, Love was leading the league with a rebound percentage of 23.3 percent. That figure, if it holds, would be the 12th-highest rebound percentage in N.B.A. history.

Both Duncan and Ginobili will be joining Spurs' coach Gregg Popovich in Los Angeles as he was named the 2011 Western Conference All-Star coach last month.

Despite many who felt Duncan didn't have the statistics to make the team, his numbers proved solid. Also, Houston Rocket's center Yao Ming received the votes to make the squad but he's injured and unable to play. This could have been a factor for Duncan being named as a West reserve as the West could be short-handed in the big man department.

What is it about this team and season? It’s just uncanny how familiar it all is, as if we’ve seen this all before. This script, it feels as if it’s already been written.

Of course, just about the time one comes to that kind of a realization, has it crystallized in their mind and believes they may have just found the trend to foretell what’s to come, that’s usually about the time someone gets slapped upside the head.

I’ve been around long enough to witness the entirety of David Robinson’s career and experience some of the highest of highs and lowest lows a fan can have in that time. But it’s never precluded me from playing the “What if?” game: What if Tim Duncan is available for the 2000 playoffs? What if the Big Three never played internationally? What if 0.4 was disallowed or Dirk was never fouled? What if the 2002-03 Spurs had been able to come back intact the following year; or what if they had been able to start their season the way this 2010-11 team has, with a roster full of familiarity, continuity, good health and a collective chip on their shoulder? Would it have looked anything like 40-8?

The number of Spurs players headed to Los Angeles to participate in the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend has just increased.

Spurs forward Larry Owens was selected today to represent the West at the 2011 D-League All-Star Game on Saturday, February 19.

Owens will be joined on the West roster by Marcus Cousin, who spent the preseason with the Spurs before being sent to Austin.

Former Spur Garrett Temple, who was recently called up to the Milwaukee Bucks will play for the East squad.
