After complaining of back spasm against the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers' Evan Turner is expected to play tonight against the San Antonio Spurs:

"I'll get it situated right now," Turner said after playing 13 minutes and scoring two points. "It just spasm-ed up on me. I'll be ready to roll. It just spasm-ed up. I woke up today and I took a nap and I woke up again and it started hurting. I'm going to have it checked out again and I will be ready for Friday."

Tonight's matchup also pits Sixers' big man Spencer Hawes against Spurs' big man Tim Duncan; however, Hawes grew up admiring Duncan:

"He was a guy I thought my game was similar to," Hawes said. "I could really try to emulate some of the things he was doing. I think his skill set was something I always admired and always tried to copy to a certain degree."

The NBA and Marvel Comics have teamed up to have a super hero inspired clothing line, artwork, and accessories for each NBA team which will include team names and logos.

For the San Antonio Spurs, the characters selected are Wolverine and the Silver Surfer:

The Spurs, according to NBA spokeswoman Amanda Thorn, will be represented by a pair of Marvel characters — the Silver Surfer and Wolverine.

Thorn (not to be confused with another Marvel character, Thor) says the new NBA super hero merchandise featuring the Spurs will be available at NBAStore.com and at participating JC Penney stores. (bizjournals.com)

All I can say is the NBA and Marvel picked two great characters to represent the Spurs.

Wolverine is a never-say-die character, ferocious and nearly indestructible. The Silver Surfer is a semi-devine being, immensely powerful, and can survive within nearly any known natural environment.

The Spurs are similar to these two characters.

Many wrote off the Spurs as being too old, and considered their best years were behind them. But like Wolverine, the Spurs have proven to seemingly be indestructible this season with their NBA leading record at 44-8. And despite their aged core of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker, all three have the never-say-die attitude and still contribute game-in and game-out.

And just like the Silver Surfer, who can survive in any environment, the Spurs have proven they can win in any opponent's home court with their 19-6 road record which ranks first in the NBA. Not to mention their 8-0 road record to start the season which was the best in franchise history.

The San Antonio Spurs prepare to head into the All-Star break with one of their best records in recent memory and a decent enough lead in the division and conference standings. Though most Power Rankings have them as the top team in the league right now, many NBA pundits still pick the Boston Celtics or Los Angeles Lakers as a better team and favorite to win the title.

The Lakers are after all the two-time defending NBA champions, and the Celtics have been to the NBA Finals two out of the last three years. At times, both franchises may not look like title contenders, but they are still teams filled with great talent, size, coaching and solid postseason experience.

The Spurs currently hold the best overall record in the league at 44-8. That may not mean much now, especially with 30 games remaining, and it definitely means diddly squat come playoff time. But let’s face it, this team has more than earned the league’s top mark and right to be called a title contender.

San Antonio isn’t just winning games, it's winning games in ways that flat out frustrates opponents. In the past, the Silver and Black have relied on its defense to carry them to victory. That is once again the case, only this time, they have a high powered offense to go along with it.

For three quarters, the San Antonio Spurs had a hard time trying to pull away from the Toronto Raptors. When the fourth period started it was a different story.

The Spurs opened the fourth with a 9-2 run, forcing Toronto to call a timeout after a 3-pointer by Matt Bonner with 10:22 remaining and San Antonio lead 90-86.

From there, the Spurs coasted to a 111-100 victory over the Raptors. 

Here are some of the numbers which stood out in this Spurs' win.

70 - The Spurs dominated the inside game, outscoring the Raptors 70-40 on inside points.

30 - San Antonio shared the ball better, dishing out 30 assists compared to the Raptors' 22. The Spurs won the game by outscoring the Raptors 30-16 in the final period.

29 - Andrea Bargnani had a game-high 29 points for the Raptors and added two rebounds and one steal.

• The San Antonio Spurs have defeated the Los Angeles Lakers twice this season but the Lakers' Kobe Bryant still feels the biggest obstacle to another NBA title is through the Boston Celtics:

Bryant said the Celtics are the most daunting opponent in the Lakers' quest to three-peat.

• The Daily Princetonian breaks down Spurs' forward Matt Bonner's true shooting percentage:

True Shooting Percentage: San Antonio Spurs backup power forward Matt Bonner has a shooting percentage of .484. New York Knicks center Ronny Turiaf has a shooting percentage of .636. Sure sounds like Turiaf has been a more effective shooter, right? But we’re leaving out an absolutely crucial component. Virtually all of Turiaf’s shots are two-point shots taken close to the basket while Bonner’s primary role is as a floor-spacer, with over 60 percent of his shots taken from behind the three-point line. Clearly, then, Bonner’s shots tend to have a smaller probability of success and result in more points. TS percentage accounts for this. The idea is similar to shooting percentage but also accounts for free throws and three-point shooting (if a player never made any free throws or three-pointers, his True Shooting Percentage and regular shooting percentage would be identical). When all of those factors are added in, Bonner’s TS percentage jumps to .651, virtually identical to Turiaf’s .650. This statistic helps properly account for the values of spot-up shooters such as Bonner, Boston’s Ray Allen or Miami’s Eddie House, most of whom get their points in large portion from three-point shots and, therefore, have lower field goal percentage than inside players such as Shaquille O’Neal or Dwight Howard. It also punishes poor foul shooters and rewards good ones; Dwight Howard and Al Horford have very similar TS percentage despite Howard’s higher field goal percentage because Horford is significantly better at shooting free throws.

The San Antonio Spurs (43-8) will face the Toronto Raptors (14-38) tonight in Toronto as the Rodeo Road Trip continues.

The Spurs are coming off a 100-89 win over the Detroit Pistons last night led by Tony Parker with 19 points. This game will be the second of three back-to-back game situations for the Spurs on the Rodeo Road Trip and so far the Spurs are 5-4 on the second game of a back-to-backs this season.

The Raptors are coming off a 92-74 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks led by Andrea Bargnani with 23 points.

The last time these two teams met, it was a 104-95 win for the Spurs in San Antonio where DeJuan Blair had a 22-point, 11-rebound night; and Tim Duncan posted 10-points, 12-rebounds for the Spurs.

Currently, the Spurs hold an overall 21-9 series lead and are 9-5 in Toronto.
