LeBron's new kicks have him as a 2-time champ

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

The San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat are tied 3-3 in the 2013 NBA Finals with a winner-take-all Game 7 looming tomorrow in Miami. But if LeBron James' new sneakers are any indication, the Spurs might as well skip Game 7 since Nike already has proclaimed James a two-time NBA champ.

James showed off his new kicks and from the outside they look nothing more than a pair of basketball sneakers, inside Nike has James repeating as an NBA champ.

Suns' Dudley doesn't want the Spurs to win title

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

Phoenix Suns' Jared Dudley is not hiding his feelings when it comes to the San Antonio Spurs possibly winning the NBA title this Thursday. In a nutshell, he doesn't want the Spurs to win it all.

"I don't like the Spurs," Dudley stated. "I was here not when they (Suns) were losing, but I was here with Steve and I could feel his pain and emotion on his face when we played them.

"I can feel the fans' passion and I don't like the Spurs and I don't want to see them win."

(Video) Ginobili: I'm devastated

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

The San Antonio Spurs were moments away from capturing title No. 5 for the franchise versus the Miami Heat in Miami in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, holding on to a 5-point lead.

Then a three pointer by Ray Allen, missed free throws by the Spurs, and a few rebounds that did not go San Antonio's way and the Spurs saw their lead evaporate and lost in overtime, 100-103.

After the game, Manu Ginobili spoke to the press and needless to say, he was distraught over this loss. From words such as "tough moment," "we let it go," "devastated," to "it hurts," Manu clearly seems let down by the loss.

Spurs fail to close out series, Heat force Game 7

Written by Paul Garcia on .

With 28.2 seconds remaining in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, the stage was set for the San Antonio Spurs to claim their fifth NBA championship, as the Spurs had the defending champion Miami Heat on the ropes with a 94-89 lead.

But as LeBron James said after the game Tuesday, there’s a reason basketball is a full 48-minutes and not 47:30 minutes.

“And you know,” said James of his teams 103-100 overtime victory, “that's why you play the game, to the final buzzer.  And that's what we did tonight.  We gave it everything that we had and more.”

For Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, he sees a successful defensive possession as one in which the opposing team misses and your team secures the rebound. Even if the other team misses, you still have to grab the rebound to actually complete a full defensive possession.

Video: Kawhi Leonard puts Mike Miller on a poster

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

It didn't take long for the San Antonio Spurs to get the highlights going in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals courtesy of Kawhi Leonard.

Early in the first quarter, the Spurs were out on the fast break when Tony Parker found a streaking Leonard heading to the rim. Only one thing... Mike Miller was standing in his way.

However, Leonard made short work of Miller's weak attempt at defense and threw down a vicious dunk on Miller. Check it out.

The 'Little General' tried to pull a fast one on Pop with Danny Green

So apparently, the then-New Jersey Nets could've picked up Danny Green last year. According to Avery Johnson, who was coach last season, they  were so close on getting the NBA Finals record-holder for most three-pointers. Here's NetsDaily with the report and the transcript

After the Spurs' win over the Heat, Green's' shooting was a hot topic on First Take, hosted by Stephen A. Smith. Johnson took the opportunity to talk about how good he thought Green was during his tenure at Nets coach.

AJ: "I remember with the Nets, Billy King and I, we were trying convince Pop to cut Danny Green so we could bring him at the time to New Jersey."

SAS: "You were trying to hoodwink Pop?

Spurs no strangers to closing out on the road

Written by Michael A. De Leon on .

Spurs HeatThrough four playoffs series this postseason, the San Antonio Spurs have now only lost four games total. Sweeps in the opening round and Western Conference Finals mean the Spurs’ only losses have come at the hands of the Golden State Warriors and the Miami Heat.

4 losses.

The Spurs will look to end the playoffs tonight with that same number as they enter a crucial Game 6 in Miami.

There’s nothing easy about closing out a series on the road, but the Spurs have been here before and have a 100 percent success rate in closeout games on the road.

Five players in play for Finals MVP, Green the lone standout

Written by Paul Garcia on .

With the San Antonio Spurs ahead 3-2 in the NBA Finals over the Miami Heat, it’s safe to begin looking at who a potential Finals MVP for the series could be if the Spurs win the title in six or seven games, or the Heat force a seventh game and win the championship.

The numbers provided below come from NBA.com/stats are only taken from the averages through the five NBA Finals games.

If the Spurs win the Championship

  • Danny Green: 18 points (10.6 FGA), 66% shooting from 3-point range, 1.6 blocks

“Danny Shoot Ball” is what Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said about Green back in early January, and that’s exactly what Green’s continued to do at an even higher rate through five games in the Finals.

It's now or never for the Spurs

There’s an amazing statistic that’s been floating out there for a little while.  It’s truly indicative of the San Antonio Spurs’ dominance in the Tim Duncan era.  You’ve heard it before, but it’s still breathtaking every time you hear it again.

The Spurs have never trailed in the NBA Finals.

Ever.

EVER!!

That’s insanity.  But it could also be history if the Spurs don’t win tonight.

That’s right.  No matter what ridiculous debates you might have seen today, tonight is the most must-win game of the season for the Spurs.  If they lose this, they can forget it.
