The San Antonio Spurs rounded out their roster earlier this week when they signed free agent forward Sam Young. Spurs fans had mixed reactions to the signing but all-in-all, fans seem to like the addition of Young.
He is an energy-type player and will surely get fans to get up off their seats.
And for those fans who have welcomed Sam to the team, he is glad to be a Spur and sent his appreciation to Spurs fans across the globe.
Thanks to all the Spurs fans that welcome me, glad to be here.— Sam Young (@SamYoung4) September 28, 2013
Granted this may be a training camp signing and it remains to be seen if Young will be on the roster come opening night. Also, keep in mind this was for the 15th roster spot and there's no word if his deal was guaranteed.
He is 6"6', 220 lbs., 28-years old and has NBA career averages of 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and shot 44 percent. Young averaged 2.8 points and 2.2 rebounds last season with the Indiana Pacers off the bench and is a solid defender.
Maybe everyone forgot when Sam Young and Arthur torched the Spurs in the first round in Memphis. He is a great back up player with potential to develop. This guy will surprise you with his play. I think he could work himself in a starting role some nights with Kawhi moving down to the two guard. This will never happen if Danny Green continues his great Shooting. We didn't know who Danny Green was until he developed in the system too..
No one has said it yet, so I'll go ahead ant throw it out there: I would have preferred that the Spurs leave that 15th slot open.
But if this is just a training camp signing or temporary contract, as has been hinted at, I suppose I'm okay with it.
If he turns out to be a really good defender they could have leonard at the 4 and green and young at 2and 3 in small ball.
Even though I like Patty Mills, he's buried deep in the Spurs bench. The dude needs to play so send him to one of the Spurs Umbrella corporations (in the East of course) for a 2nd rd pick and an additional roster spot just became available to try and sign both Young and Maggette. And ¡VIOLA! Spurs just come on top with a great two for one deal. The ol' Addition by Subtraction method ! Maggette/Young are interchangeable, I'd rather be stacked/loaded at Kawhi's position just in case of injuries/rest and/or they can see time at the 2 spot. Also they don't have to contribute right away (even though it would be great) so it gives them adequate time to get acclimated to the Spirs system.
Magette cant d from what ive heard. I would prefer to have hollis thompson but if we stick with sam young im okay with it.
Maggete has more upside in terms of cracking the rotation but i bet SY gets the final spot. He seems like a good Kawhi insurance policy.
He reminds me of james anderson but he might be different nedd to c him play tocevaluate him better. Cant wait for next wednesday
@Txfrack Leonard at the 4? No. Diaw, Jeff Ayers or Bonner would be better in my opinion. I would prefer someone who's mobile with a little bit more weight on them. If you want both Young and Leonard on the court you could put either player at the 2 or 3.
@BorisAlessandri I've been thinking exactly that as well. I like Patty but he deserves more than flag-waver, Philly would be a good landing spot.
@SpursAllDay11 Hollis signed with 6ers..but may be camp only, not sure
@SpursAllDay11 I think I understood what he was saying. It didn't really work in the Finals if you remember. That's why I said have someone with a bit of more weight on them at the 4. Plus, it all depends on the match-up. But Leonard shouldn't be playing at the 4 or 5 anyway.
@SpursAllDay11 very likely
