Add another pro-basketball team to San Antonio Spurs 2010 NBA draftee Ryan Richards' resume.
After playing with (in no particular order) Team Britain, Team Jamaica, Georgia team Sokhumi, Polish team Asseco, Spanish team Gran Canaria, Austrian team BC Zepter, and Swiss teams Lugano Tigers and BBC Monthey, Richards has now signed with Al Nasr Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The Spurs still hold his rights but at this point, it may be shaping up that Ryan won't be coming to the NBA anytime soon.
He played with the Spurs' Summer League team this summer and performance was sub-par. His best game was versus the Bucks where he finished with 18 points. But aside from that, it was another mediocre showing.
There's also the reported maturity issues from Richards. Recall he quit on Team Britain, and left Swiss team Lugano for "personal reasons."
He may as well be labeled a "draft-and-stash" for San Antonio but he is young (22-years old) and there is still time for him to get it together. However, he may be more "stash" at this point in his NBA dreams.
Thoughts Spurs fans?

Nope u don't give up on him just yet. Ain't nobody but BIG POPPA POP is going to make him mind and don't mind minding Pop been doing that with tony.manu Blair and de colo now I really don't think he will have a problem once Pop put that MILITARY training on his ass and mind and teaching him to respect hisself. and there is another thing .we really don't no what the hell happen on them other teams he left. The SPURS no what happen.Hey they have his rights and they ain't complaining. He only played in one game this past summer. He got skills to make mills b a dam shame to give up on him for him to land on another nba team to play well Don't fool yourself there r teams just waiting on the Spurs to lose one of its oversea player and he is definitely one of them They didn't take the chance on losing his rights this year with the toros. Stay overseas get better and b here next season
David Telep be like, "I should've came to the spurs sooner to help you guys avoid drafting this disaster."
Disappointing to say the least. He may have the most talent of all the Spurs draft picks stashed overseas, but his game is not improving nor developing that much. His skill set and size are just what the Spurs need, but he doesn't seem to want it badly enough. Go figure.
We can only hope. Europe had no offers or interest in him at all? I'm not saying they needed to, but offensively at least he could help some team in a better league at this point it seems. He can still develop. A stretch 5 somebody called him in summer. I put on some weight alright and knew how to use it offensively in one game he was given opportunity to play in. I had hoped him to be a 4 type who can stretch floor and cover some ground too defensively. He needs interior focus.... more rebounding, defense, closing the lane, and shot blocking. He seems to want to roam too much on defense and doesn't seem to desire rebounding too much from my small window perspective thus far. I used the word "seem" a lot. He has a long way to go if he wants to make the Spurs roster. Another 2 years maybe? "Ryan we are pulling for you. Get to work and ask Spurs for all the help and direction they can give you."
This is sad and perplexing. It's like Richards is getting career advice from Stephon Marbury. This guy does have potential on so many levels. Geez. There are a million guys who love basketball and play basketball who would love to have this kid's height and athletic ability and POTENTIAL. Seems the problem is between his ears. Al Nasr Dubai and the United Arab Emirates Basketball League? Seriously? My thoughts: Unless this kid gets his noggin together by age 24 or so, trade his rights to anyone who might give a 2nd round pick for said rights. Only other question I have now is if Team Canada scrimmaged this team Richards is on, would Corey Joseph dominate, be productive but not spectacular or have a poor performance? There's THAT. (My continual concern).
@gymbear Lol @ Marbury dig..well played , sir. And perplexing IS the word. All these gigs in glorified YMCA leagues is just baffling considering his tools. My guess is that it is a maturity issue, He just seems to make bad decisions at a clip. Thankfully he IS still young enough to turn it all around. That said, I'm definitely starting to have my doubts at this juncture.
