From Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com:
There were so many things we could've done that would've PREVENTED this from even happening in the first place. For starters, if Kawhi or Manu didn't miss one of their free throws in the remaining seconds, we'd probably be champs. If Manu would've cut down his turnovers to one or two instead of an ATROCIOUS eight, we'd probably be champs. If Duncan would've got more touches in the 2nd half, he probably would've continued owning the Miami frontcourt and finished the game with 40......and we'd probably be champs. Who knows? It's not like every spur played a flawless game, only for this Ray Allen 3 to happen. It sucks, but we lost. It's a new season. As far as I'm concerned, we are just as good, maybe slightly better than the team that almost knocked off King James and his supporting cast. We can't be always looking in the rearview mirror. There's another trophy waiting to be won next June.
when i watch this video .........it makes me feel like i lost a family member. im still in shock. wwwwwwwwwwtttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffUCK
More definitively a foul was Ray Allen whacking Ginobli across the arm as GInobli drove at the end. Free throws for Ginobli. Before that. LeBron drove and Danny came from behind and contested layup attempt. Lebron pushed off with left forearm sending Danny to the floor. FOUL on Lebron. The controversy was about who it went off of out of bounds? Easily LeBron, which they got correct. Hey showed game on NBA-tv last night. I could barely stand to watch it. Time to move on..... NEW season !! GO SPURS !!!
did they review the no calls on our last two possessions of OT? i've always been able to ignore that because it never should have come to that point anyway, but still that was 5 pts lost at the end of a 3 pt loss.
even when I take off my Spurs colored glasses, the play is the very definition of a travel. the pass caught him in mid-stride and then two more steps followed after the first step when he received the pass. Its over and done with, the NBA and the refs are trying to save themselves from the embarrassment of a missed call. I will forever carry this "emotional shrapnel" for as long as I live
It is what it is. We lost. We had every opportunity to win that game and just collapsed on so many levels. I still look at our loss in the Finals as more of a failure on the Spurs (and I hate to say that) than the Heat being the better team. One thing they were better at than us, and I still can't believe it-they kept their composure, well, that and getting rebounds when they needed them.
I do think that one of the reasons you're seeing Spurs Front Office so interested in vets: They know that depth and experience matter under the Bright Lights. How nice would it had been to have had Marco last year when Manu was struggling? Or when Danny went from hot to cold? How nice would it have been to have had a vet pg to spell Tony when it was obvious as the series went on that he was being run ragged and his legs were going? Manu tried to do too much, Joseph was pedestrian at best.
How nice would it have been to have had a reliable big, a vet, whose basic skill set wasn't scoring, but simply banging and grabbing boards to relieve the load TD had to carry? Tiago grew last season but was over his head against the Heat and he's a so-so rebounder. Boris is great at certain things, but he's not a rebounder. TD and Kawhi had to carry that load. Pop sure wasn't going to put Bonner in there for boards and anyone who thinks D Blair (besides D Blair himself) would have helped with rebounding is delusional. The Heat were either simply more athletic or had better length positions 2-4. It would have been nice to have a vet who could come in and just grab some boards and play physical ball-a guy with some length.
I think Pop and RC saw those things and they are going to address them (and are). Cant' stand the Heat, can't stand Ray Allen. I do love my Spurs and absolutely trust the FO to make this team deeper and better. I think they are doing that and by the trade deadline if not sooner, the Spurs will have veteran depth at these key positions so WHEN (not if) they get back to the Finals, the things that hurt us last year will not this year.
But to answer you're question I dont think it was a travel, seemingly very close but not one step close enough.
It just breaks my heart thinking about it ill never forget that shot just as ill never forget that shot by fisher in .04 seconds. But with that being said I see great things for this upcoming season and I'm more excited than ever.
@Frenchtouch Nice catch
@Frenchtouch You're correct. Writer needs to fact check before publishing.
