I'm ready for the season to start so that Spurs can play well and reach the playoffs again and then hopefully they can make the Finals again and not make the mistakes to win the 5th trophy they should've already gotten.
perhaps Spurs still might make a move during the season.
YA.....CANT WAIT TO SE THEIR BENCH PLAYER ......
TIAGO NEED TO THE BENCH TO WEAK....LOL JEFF AYERS DESERVE IT HE CAN PLAY NUSTY......TIAGO, DIAW, MARCO, MANU, DE COLO .....INTERNATIONL SPURS BENCH PLAYER ...LOL
Marco was strong contributor to the Bulls all last year, and as ajd21 already said, due to the Bulls injuries, Marco was really being asked to do too much. However, what really won me over was his play during the post season. He stepped up in the most important games. I won't name names THIS time, but I believe that depth has robbed us of opportunities to play for the NBA title in recent years. Too many of our guys who played like beasts in the regular season turned into wallflowers in the playoffs (e.g. shooting 45% from 3pt line in regular season but 25% in playoffs, timid on defense and rebounding, and poor decision making).
I was surprised by the speed in which the Spurs signed him, but if you look at his strengths and style of play, he should be a perfect fit in San Antonio. He may actually perform at a higher level for us, because his role will be defined, and he won't be asked to do too much.
This is an under-the-radar signing that could swing the balance for an NBA championship. Look around at the hype surrounding other FAs. So what Josh Smith sign with the Pistons. They still may not make the playoffs. D-Will isn't healthy, which means the Nets will just be the Celtics B squad. Looks like Andrew Bynum got a new sucker for the 2013-2014 season, then there's Dwight Howard, an athletic specimen who doesn't care much about winning. Good luck, Houston.
We gripe about the Spurs FO getting the leftovers, but after sitting back and objectively looking at the NBA landscape, I like our chances with additions like Marco, Jeff (Ayers) and resigning Manu and Splitter (albeit paying more $ than I thought). Go, Spurs!
Great addition to the team. Albeit, I really liked Neal...he was a defensive liability. MB is not known as defensive stopper, but he's bigger and the effort is there. I look forward to the season. Go Spurs!
Face value a great pickup for any team. For a team that plays a Euro style of ball and a coach who loves Euros? Priceless pickup. Marco is going to thrive (with the prerequisite learning curve) in this system and on this team.
@SCOLFIELD1421 I like Jeff, but he has proven very little thus far whereas Tiago has proven himself as a worthy starter. Beyond that, Jeff will not be playing tiagos' center position
@jaws3 I'm with ya until the Nets Boston B squad thing. Dwill will very likely be 100%(no serious injury) and Lopez says hes 100 for first time since forever. Beyond that the team is just stacked. If they gel this year, they will make noise
@jaws3 Not to mention, Kevin Durant vouched HARD for Belinelli to come to OKC. He evidently told his front office he wanted Marco to join the Thunder, and was disappointed he went here. It looks like he saw Marco as the guy that could bring a little James Harden type game back to OKC. TOO BAD!!! lol
I can't wait to see how our teams looks now. Only like what......3 weeks till preseason?? I can't wait. That Game 6 is still giving me nightmares. I wake up some nights screaming, "ALLEN FOR THREE!!"
@TrooperJoe73 I think Bellinelli is a better help defender. Bellinelli was asked to do a little too much in Chicago, but in the Spurs system, I think he'll do better. He's virtually the same when it comes to shooting compared to Neal. Neal is a career 40% 3 pt shooter while Belinelli is a 39% shooter. Their FG% are about the same too. The thing is, Belinelli's shot selection in Chicago wasn't that great, but you can credit that to Chicago's offense being so discombobulated throughout the season due to so many injuries. The Spurs are known for their drive and kick outs, and giving 3 point shooters all they can get, so the situation he's in now seems to be better for his game. Not to mention, Belinelli is a slightly better SCORER. Belinelli isn't afraid to penetrate and make a crazy layup amongst the tall trees.
@gymbear I stopped just short of throwing out the prototypical tag tbh
