It appears the San Antonio Spurs are continuing to look at possible talent to add to their training camp which is set to kick off next week.
According to Yahooo! Sports, the Spurs took a look at free agent guard-forward Josh Howard but did not extend him a camp invite.
Free agent Josh Howard had good work outs for SA & HOU after return from knee surgery, but still seeking training camp invite, source says.— Marc J. Spears (@SpearsNBAYahoo) September 28, 2013
San Antonio did pursue Howard a few seasons ago but in the end, he signed with Utah.
Howard has career averages of 14 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 44 percent shooting. He played with Minnesota last season in 11 games averaging a career low 6.7 points.
Due diligence is a good thing. Spurs have a way of making guys fit and be productive in their system in ways most teams can't. And if they don't (Capt Jack, Rodman), they get the boot. I think it's great they are leaving no stone un-turned. Seriously, at that position you're looking at someone who is an insurance policy and may play limited minutes during the regular season and only in the playoffs if there are injuries. We're stacked with guys who can play the 2-3. The real need is one guy who will be a reliable backup to Kawhi, play 10-12 a night and be solid on the Big Stage WHEN we get back to the Finals. Marco and Manu can do spot duty backing him up but we need that one guy. Guys, the more reports I hear the more confident I am the Spurs are working every angle they can to have reliable vet players available at every position and that's a good thing. Now about our 6000 point guards and that backup pg situation and our need for a vet big......
can we please stop with the josh howards????!!!!! holy crap dude was decent 8 years ago, can we move on from him PLEASE!!!!!
I guess it's mean, but I kinda hope they worked him out just to get his hopes up. He has spurned us once or twice....
@PaulGarciaPS you making the show?
