The San Antonio Spurs have waived guard Courtney Fells and forward Dan Nwaelele and will head into the new season with a 14 man roster.
Spurs waive Courtney Fells and Dan Nwaelele.— Maximum Sports (@MaxSportsSA) October 20, 2013
Fells did not play (coach's decision) in the Spurs' loss to the Heat last night and Nwaelele scored two points in three minutes.
Seeing Fells waived isn't such a surprise considering the team is stacked with guards such as Tony Parker, Patty Mills, Nando De Colo, and Cory Joseph. It was going to be tough for Fells to make this roster.
As for Nwaelele, he had a slight outside shot with the Spurs needing a back up small forward for Kawhi Leonard. With Dan waived, it appears the team will leave the final roster spot for another player to back up Kawhi or other insurance needs.
This move isn't too surprising considering the Spurs have usually gone into new season with a roster spot open.
Thoughts Spurs fans?
I was kind of hoping they would trade De Colo for a SF (maybe to Utah since Burke is injured maybe for Jeremy Evans or Mike Harris) and then sign Fells. I didn't see him being signed with the pg coverage we currently have. I hope he makes it in the league though, he looked like he showed the effort for it.
I think the most important thing at this time is to find one more guy who can play the 1/2. We need 102 guys who can do that. 101 is not enough.
@SCOLFIELD1421 You've found the CAPS OFF button??? Hooray!!!!
