Once former San Antonio Spurs forward DeJuan Blair signed with the Dallas Mavericks he simply unleashed about his former team.
He's on record saying the Spurs didn't believe in him, said the Spurs might have won their fifth NBA title if coach Popovich played him more, has made it known he has the first Mavs-Spurs game circled in his calendar and even Mavs owner Mark Cuban has said Blair will punish San Antonio this coming season.
Well the verbal jabs keep coming from DeJuan as he shows there's no love lost.
dejuan blair as reliable as a paper bag on a rainy day! don't sing it bring it big fella let's see you average 20 pts this year at least against us. we'll see DB...
anyone have an idea as to why blair's playing time diminished as the seasons passed? could it have been merely just matchups or perhaps clashes w/ coaching staff?
I wish Dejuan Blair success in his new team. It is unfortunate we couldn't keep him. But regardless, Mavs will not be better than the spurs.
Well, with Dirk, Samuel Dalembert, and Brandan Wright playing in front of him (even Shawn Marion sees some time at PF), Blair will probably get more playing time with the Mavs but I'm not sure if it will be that much more than when he was with the Spurs during his time here. I wish him good luck, but unfortunately for him, he joined a team that won't be contending in the playoffs.
It is very clear that the comments below are from fans that DO NOT understand the game of basketball...l wish Mr. Blair sucess with his new team and Coach Pop a Bitch good luck with his INTERNATIONAL SPURS... Mr. Blair is not the one that is bringing up the Spurs the reporters are bringing them up... it is the rilvary!
when the two teams meet up, I hope Spurs do what they did in the first two matchups against them last season- blow them out! and Cuban can stick his dumb "punish" comments up where the sun don't shine.
@JeffProjectSpurs Blair came into the team when they were high scoring offense and middle of the road defense. He was a good fit for that team then. But when Pop realized that they couldn't win like that (Memphis in 2011), they didn't have any place for an undersized 4 who is a mediocre defender and can't get his own shot. When Boris came along, Blair really took a dive down the depth chart because he does almost everything better than Blair (BBIQ, defense, shooting, dribbling, etc.). I would agree that he didn't develop much other than a tear drop floater this past year. I think the system changed though and didn't have a place for him to fit in (other than garbage time).
@JeffProjectSpurs I think it was mostly that he showed little to no growth as a player and made the same mistakes over and over.
@JeffProjectSpurs Honestly, I'm not sure. I always kinda liked the guy, but I would imagine with his vertical challenge, demands of playing time (if he did it publicly, I imagine he did so more privately) and battle with the bulge did him no favors. I haven't seen anything definitive on why he fell into disfavor, more likely a bunch of little things that just did him in. I think he's a good player, but I really don't like that he is talking smack about the team that got him started.
@Emicris Wright may be out for a good while with his injury. So at least early in season Coach Carrey may be forced to play DeWhine significant mins.
@B1man210 Yeah, if you're going to comment here, please don't insult the other fans here. Keep it classy and respectful. Thank you.
@B1man210 Idiotic assumption that fans commenting here dont understand bball. I can assume too. You are a Wavs fan thats just testy because you know your team has no chance to make any noise.
@B1man210 who are you to criticize one who understands the game of basketball? I think you need some understanding. with all that you said, I don't think you should be commenting here at all because it sounds like you're not even a Spurs fan (odd thing, I decided click on your name and see this is your very first comment). what kind of fan are YOU?
and yes though the reporters bring it up, Blair could've chosen not to respond at all but it was HIS decision on how he wanted to respond.
@RockheadTG you think he was ever spurs material?
I understand your statement but Dejuan didn't play in the Memphis series at all. They had the best record in the league then benched him for Antonio McDyess and Blair barely played and they were swept. If he would have played in the series your point would be valid.
@@JeffProjectSpurs to me, didn't really feel like Blair ever was. geez, I remember when he was involved in some rap song or something over a year or so ago and I think got in trouble for it. I figure after that, he probably wouldn't last any longer in SA.
Yeah I knew it was coming, but say what you want about the guy but he is the only player in the series to have a positive +/- in every game. I know he isn't a star but he was definitely better than Antonio McDyess for that matchup. McDyess did not have the strength to guard Z-Bo which is why Dejuan played more in game one, he was more effective. I'm from Pittsburgh and we don't have much to root for in the NBA, so I just hoped he would get more of a chance in playoff games. And like I said, the team was +8 when he was on the floor in the first game when he played the most, and positive every other game which he played. I just don't understand why you start a guy all year and the team does great just to bench him and lose the series because his backup got killed by Z-Bo.
@Drad82 cause Pop knew he would get bullied around by Gasol and Randolph. Even though Blair didn't start game 1 he got 9 more minutes that game than McDyess (22 - 13). Z-bo went crazy that game with 25 & 14 and the Spurs lost. Game 2 Pop switched up the minutes and Zach only had 11 & 4 and the Spurs won. That trend, plus Splitter, caused the beginning of the end for Pop's faith in Blair as a starter on championship caliber team. Also, Blair came off the bench the last regular season game against the Grizz. So maybe we should have seen it coming.
@sa2ny2004 I live too far away. But I'll be cussing him from my couch for sure.
@WhatAboutTob you going to be there to give him a "nice" welcome back to sa?
