Game 7 between Heat and Pacers tonight, I'll be watching. Already the Spurs have an advantage over both teams because they will be well rested. I would like to see Spurs - Pacers Finals because Spurs would have home court advantage. Then again, it would be sweet to beat the Heat in 6.
The same people in SA who want to play the Heat so bad remind me of those soldiers in war movies who are so amped to go to war that they crazily run onto the battlefield and instantly get killed first. Even if the Heat lose the series you're going to see about 15% of the coverage go to the Spurs and Tim while the other 85% will be about Lebron not repeating and how that hurts his legacy. As Spurs fans you'll never be satisfied with the storyline you think your team deserves.
So why not the Pacers? You think playing the Heat is a more favorable matchup?
Say if there is a 7th game are you positive the 31 year old Tony Parker will have the same stamina as the 25 year old version would? Are you confident in Danny Green's ability to be a reliable secondary ball handler and decision maker if they trap Tony at half court and force him to give the ball up? Are you a positive that Green won't disappear offensively? How many points per game did he score against Mem? They call him Icy/Hot for a reason. You don't think Kawhi will get in foul trouble when guarding Lebron for 48 minutes? Lebron now admits he'd flop to get a call. I wouldn't be surprised if Lebron plays every minute of each game. Remember Kevin Durant avg. 47 minutes a game against SA in last year's WCF and he seemed alright.
Maybe everyone is right in saying the 2013 Heat are like the 2007 Cavs. I'd like to think Ray Allen and Shane Battier won't make a crucial corner three when it really counts. I'd like to think Chris Bosh won't go off like he usually does against the Spurs. I'd also like to think D Wade is truly hobbled and is a shell of his former himself. But don't be fooled by D. Wade's play. He is notorious for coasting throughout the games. If Lebron was your teammate you would too. Hopefully, everything will turn out okay for the Spurs and they'll win number 5. But don't think playing the Miami Heat is the easier path to the title than playing the Pacers. I mean have you seen Sam Young play?
I want the Heat in the Finals, but I'm rooting for Indiana. How is that possible you say? I'm rooting for Indiana to play so gosh darn hard, that they'll just beat up on Miami. I really want the Pacers/Heat series to go 7 games, these last 2 games being extremely physical. We may come out rusty in game 1, but at least Miami will be pretty badly beaten up when they play us, if an only if Indiana starts playing rough ball and getting super physical. That's what I want. I want Miami to win the series, but I want them to be weak, tired, with little time to prepare for us.
Also, Miami is a worse rebounding team than Indiana. We just swept an exceptional rebounding team with an exceptional front court (better than Miami's front court in almost every way possible) in Memphis. Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter should have their way with Chris Bosh and freakin Udonis Haslem. I'm just saying, if we could handle Randolph and Gasol, AND ALSO Howard and Pau, why should Bosh and HASLEM give us serious problems? The matchup to watch is Kawhi against Lebron. They have gone up against each other only twice in two years, Kawhi didn't play in the first matchup this year and Lebron didn't play in the 2nd matchup. Kawhi should start using his long length to his advantage here. Kawhi better be ready and prepared for he will have the hardest task of any of the Spurs. If Wade is still unhealthy when the Finals start, Danny Green should have less of a problem. Danny Green did the best job on Steph Curry and severely limited him and his supernatural shooting. Yes, Curry rolling his ankle helped, but if Wade's knee is still acting up, then Green should be able to slow down Wade's offense. We are truly matched up well against the Heat. Our bench is better, our coach is better, our system is better. I'm only looking at Kawhi vs. Lebron. If Lebron is slowed down, we will raise that trophy.
Oh and Parker against Chalmers?? Parker owned Conley for 4 straight games. Why should Chalmers be a problem?
