When Thunder's Russell Westbrook went down with an injury and was later deemed out for the rest of the playoffs, many pointed to the San Antonio Spurs as the hands-down favorite to come out of the Western Conference and play for the 2012 NBA title. However, former Spurs guard Steve Kerr thought otherwise.
Kerr was a guest on Bloguin's Awful Announcing podcast and he made it clear - the Spurs are the best in the West playoffs even before Westbrook went down with an injury.
Take a listen to what TNT's Kerr had to say about his former team (at the 19:50 point of audio below) including what the Thunder will have to do without Westbrook and why he thinks they'll come out of the West. In a nutshell, he thinks the team is too deep and even feels the Spurs can defeat the Heat should they meet in the NBA Finals.
I dont wish injury on any player but Wades knee is already banged up lets hope he shuts down this season to rest it for next year...lol
Unfortunately for the rest of the NBA, I think Kerr is 100% correct. Spurs have the best chance to beat the Heat with or without a healthy Westbrook. The Heat matchup extremely well against the Thunder and are able to physically frustrate Durant (see 4th quarter Rockets vs. Thunder game from last night).
However, the Heat don't matchup well with us because of our big men and superior 3pt shooting. Beating the Heat will be no small challenge, but if there's any team that can do it, the Spurs are it. Let's not count our chickens before they hatch, but a Spurs vs. Heat final would could make my dreams come true.
@CraigThomasLets hope the Pacers give them a physical 7 game series, so they can limp into the finals!
Twice the Heat bested the Spurs and the 2nd with TD, TP and Manu and w/o Wade and Lebron. Ler's wait and see if they will be crown west's best! Go Spurs!
