The San Antonio Spurs have a knack at finding NBA talent overseas and it appears the team has eyes on another foreign basketball talent.
According to Eurohoops.net, the Blazers may be looking to trade Greek forward Kostas Papanikolaou of Olympiacos and the Spurs are interested in acquiring his rights among other teams.
So there is a strong chance that the Blazers will trade his rights and many teams has shown interest. Spurs and Mavericks are among them, as well as the Knicks who drafted Papanikolaou on No48 of last year’s draft.
According to the report, Papanikolaou won this year’s “Rising Star" award and is considered the best Euro prospect to land in the NBA.
Papanikolaou is a 6'9" forward, who is averaging 10 points, 2 assists, 4.1 assists, and shooting 71.3% from the field in 21.5 minutes for Olympiacos. In the Euroleague, he averaged 8.7 points, 1.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and shooting 47.3% from the field in 31 games.
So what do you think Spurs fans? Should San Antonio go after Kostas?
If Spurs FO wants Papanikolaou, then I trust Spurs FO will make the right decesion. But the Spurs replaement should be Al Jefferson at around 10 million. I would not pay Al Jefferson 15 millon, since the Spurs hoistorically success will allow them t o sign for the same thing he made in 2012-13 season. But I will agree, NBA big tall slow players are becoming less of a premium.
Why ? L. Green from the Toros is more talented and just as young. As for replacements for TD or others, teams don't build around post players, anymore, as few come along like TD.. We likely will never find TD's replacement or someone who has the special quality of Manu, so why not just get what we have never had, a talented starting five that matches up with the best.
SA had always had "role player at 2 ot 3 positions starting with 2 or 3 stars. Why not TP, KL, and 3 other very good players. This is possible. Corey Brewer is available and 27-28yrs old, A Hanga looks like he can really play, as do Richards, Bertrans, and even Denmon, but no more DeColo's, Bonners, or Blairs starting. The role guys can play on the second team. If we can put skilled player on the floor at every position, no one needs to be special to win big or match up with the best. Houston is the only team that is starting 5 skilled players and Minn is close if they can keep a group healthy.
Maybe our second round pick and rights to Denmon. I don't know that I would give up too much for him.
trade for bonner or a sign and trade for blair ok, anyone else nah thats ok.
i agree with live spurs, we need to work on a duncan replacement, and a manu one, then one for parker last as hes still got 4-5 years left as a spur.
