This season hasn't been too great for DeJuan Blair.
Once a starter for the San Antonio Spurs, he's seen his minutes dwindle throughout his tenure with the team. This is especially true in past postseasons. Blair started for the San Antonio Spurs and helped them to the top standings in the league only to be benched for veterans Antonio McDyess and Boris Diaw during those runs.
This season Blair hasn't had that opportunity. He's been the last man on the player on the bench for the majority of the season and the rise of Tiago Splitter may have something to do with it. That has drawn some questions from Spurs fans on why Blair hasn't been given the opportunity this season as he's gone on Twitter various times with frustration about his role.
Blair's agent, Happy Walters, hasn't been immune to the questions. On Thursday, he tweeted to Blair's fans an answer to their questions.
I keep getting Direct messages as to why Pop will not play Dejuan Blair? Great question! I will not comment directly other than to say..
"Uneasy Lies a Head that Wears a Crown" - - - - Henry IV (@HappyWalters)
This message isn't clear at all, especially for those who don't know what the meaning to this cryptic message means. Here's the meaning from the line from Dictionary.com
A person who has great responsibilities, such as a king, is constantly worried and therefore doesn't sleep soundly. This saying is a line from the play King Henry the Fourth, Part Two , by William Shakespeare.
It's not too clear on the actual meaning of the statement or who he's specifically talking about. The "king" in the statement could mean himself and his constant dealings this year with the Spurs about his client's frustration.
It could also be talking about head coach Gregg Popovich who we've known has juggled his lineups and rotations throughout the year and that could be viewed as "paranoid."
As it was reported on this site, Blair and his agent wanted a buyout from the team, but the Spurs were fearful he was going to sign with a contender for the minimum. There could be different meanings to this and Mr. Walter's general answer doesn't give us any information besides someone is worried about something.
However in the end, the writing is on the wall and DeJuan's time in San Antonio will come to an end after this season with him being a free agent.
What do you Spurs fans think about this? Who do you think he's talking about in this statement and what does he mean by it?
"Heavy is the head that wears the crown" means that sometimes you have to do things you don't want for the betterment of your kingdom or the team in this case. I am sure Pop would like to play Blair more in a perfect world and he probably feels bad for him as a person but as a leader of men you have to make tough decisions that always don't sit right. On the other hand Blair has done nothing to improve his game. He has not developed any low post moves, no mid-range shot and still commits rookie fouls. Sorry Mr. Walters the King is right. All hail Pop.
D Blair is making $1 million this season playing a game. I think his agent needs to shut his trap.
I feel bad for Dejuan in the sense he could be getting a lot more playing time somewhere else.
Not that bad, though. did I mention he's making $1 million playing a game?
