According to Yahoo! Sports, the San Antonio Spurs are finalizing a deal to bring in Indiana Pacers assistant coach Jim Boylen.
Spurs are finalizing an agreement with Pacers assistant Jim Boylen to join Gregg Popovich's coaching staff, league sources tell Y!— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 27, 2013
The Spurs recently lost long-time coach MIke Budenholzer and teams in the NBA such as the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets have spoken to Brett Brown about their coaching positions. Brian Shaw took the job with Denver and according to reports, the 76ers only received permission to speak with Brown.
Needless to say the Spurs needed to fill their coaching ranks. There were reports of former Spur Fabricio Oberto being offered an assistant coaching spot but recent reports have him not returning to San Antonio.
Boylen has been an assistant with the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Pacers. He won two titles with the Rockets.
So what do you have to say Spurs fans? Thoughts on the new coach?
I think Avery would be great to bring in and be groomed as the next head coach. He can still learn a great deal from Pop as his 1st Assistant. Boylen is somebody the like and that is fantastic. Indiana had a super run last year and he has lots of experience too. Swinging for the fences tonight !! Go Spurs !!!
Obviously POP wants him for a reason. Championship experience is nice even though it was almost twenty tears ago. I thought POP would bring in Avery, Vinny, or PJ if neither got a job.
