According to ESPN, the San Antonio Spurs are interested in free agent forward Andrei Kirilenko.
One of the teams that troubles Minnesota in Wolves' bid to retain Andrei Kirilenko: San Antonio. I'm told Spurs have AK-47 in their sights— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 1, 2013
Kirilenko is an 11-year NBA veteran and played with Minnesota last season. He averaged 12.4 points, 1 block, 1.5 steals, 5.7 rebounds and shot 50% from the field with Minnesota. For his career, he averages 12.4 points, 1.9 blocks, 1.4 steals, 5.6 rebounds and shoots 47%.
"AK-47" would be quite the addition to the Spurs. He is versatile, has the ability to score int he paint, knock down the mid-range shot and excels on defense. He was a member of the 2006 all-NBA defensive first team, led the league in blocks in 2005, and was named to the all-NBA defensive second team twice (2004 and 2005). He was also an all-star in 2005.
Moreover, the 6"9' forward would add depth to the big man corps heading into next season with DeJuan Blair likely to go elsewhere and could give valuable minutes on both ends of the court while Kawhi Leonard is on the bench.
Kirilenko spent most of his NBA career with the Jazz (2001-2011) and saw action with CSKA Moscow (2011-2012) before returning to the NBA last season.
The Spurs will use most of their cap space to re-sign Tiago Splitter and Manu Ginobili but if Kirilenko would be the perfect addition to the Spurs squad next season. Not to mention the Spurs do like foreign players and actively look overseas when adding to the team.
What do you think Spurs fans? Should the Spurs go after "AK-47" or see who else is available in the free agency market.
All I can say is Duncan need help in the paint, every -1 knows he's moves, he needs a good center that's knows wat he's doin, duncan needs some-1 he can trust to get the job done, there spending money gettin shooters, the team is already but if they don't get a center, it's goin to b hard for them to make it again
Just read a report that the Spurs attempted to land AK 47 via sign and trade with the T-Wolves. Deal seems to have fallen through due to cap uncertainty and the Spurs roster is full. However, it may be possible that once the free agency period has quieted down and teams have a better idea of their financial situations that a deal sending Kirilenko could come back on. Perhaps the Spurs could amnesty Bonner (who is owed $4 Million) to free up space. If they are or were very close to getting Kirilenko, the Spurs need to finish the deal and bring him in. AK 47 would be a perfect fit for the Spurs and with his versatility could make the difference between winning a 5th championship or going home empty handed.
REmove Tiago Splitter, He's useless. Let Blair play and excel. Then acquire DG or Oj Mayo. That's a pretty good deal.
imo tiago is only worth 6 to 7 mil a year at the MAX. he is a good center, but tiago is not dependable and reliabe center. he is just solid at best and solid is around 5 to 6 mill a year. anything over and ur asking for all star production. tiago cant be relied upon in the playoffs and the heat series showed us how replaceable he truly is. ditto for neal, im sad we brought bonner back.
im not sure what i think about this. on one side im happy that we get a defensive minded and long backup for kawhi that can help the spurs play a good defensive small ball unit. on the other side i want us to get younger and better playmakers and creaters on the bench. so.........................im not sure if its a bad move or a good move
SPLITTER is good for 5 mil. A year, over that is suicide, Manu is good for vet min. SPURS need to stop being loyal and start being aggressive. AK47 is a good pickup then we need a back up center like Kaman then shooting guard like tony allen.
I like the idea of having him on the Spurs but I still think the Spurs need another SG. Spurs should let Splitter Go and go after a SG. Oj Mayo is available. I don't think Splitter is our future and hes asking a hefty dollar.
You Can Go After Mayo If Manu Doesnt Come Back. And Manu Is Coming Back. Sorry Hold The Mayo. By The Way If Tiago Would Have Played Game 6 And 7 He Probably Would Have made That Free Throw Kawhi Missed In Game 6 Or Made That PutbacK Timmy Missed In Game 7. Sorry Tiago Is Not The Goat Here. And Whos Going To Handle Gasol and Howard Next Season. Diaw? Baynes? Bahahaha!
@TitletownX4 Did you just say that Tiago would have hit the freethrow that Leonard missed? Ummm Tiago and free throws. This dude shot 2 air balls in a row. I'd rather put Shaq on free throws lol. Well they are both horrible free throw shooters. haha.
As for the Game 7 lay up you are purely speculating that if he was in there he would have followed up the layup that Duncan missed. Im not saying that Splitter is the Goat im saying that i would rather pay a little more money for a proved Center than someone we have seen 2 years out of. IMO.
Let loose Neal Ginobili and Splitter and save that money for Al Jefferson.
Youll Be Missing Him When Timmy Runs Out Of Gas.Tiagos Worth 8 Mill Per. You Not Going To Get A Big Better Than Him For 5 Mill Per. WAFJ. Your Going To Have To Spend 12 Mil Or More Per For What Your Asking For. And We Do Need A Big DoNt We? AWell.nd That Person Needs To Know The System well.
