The first pick is in and the San Antonio Spurs have drafted Livio Jean-Charles. As we told you a few days ago, Jean-Charles plays for Asvel, the French team Tony Parker owns a part of. He's a 6'9" combo forward who is hyper athletic and hustles non-stop.
Jean-Charles was taken over proven college guys like San Diego State's Jamaal Franklin, California's Allen Crabbe and Kansas' Jeff Withey. He played reserve minutes for Asvel this season and you almost certainly will not see him next season and possibly the season after that, but there's potential there.
He was the MVP of the Nike Hoops Summit this Spring, scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds on some of the best incoming American college freshman.
It's also important to note that since Parker is part owner of Asvel, negotiating a buy out for him in a year or two shouldn't be incredibly difficult. Check out highlights of Jean-Charles here.
Spurs have one more selection, pick number 58.
I saw this coming 12 days before the draft and started begging for this to happen. To put this in a different perspective, Livio was the hoops summit MVP, over guys like Wiggins, Parker, Randle, and Schoeder. He lit up the supposed "class of a decade 2014", he was a MAN amongst BOYS that night. We may have to wait but it will be worth it. Also anyone know what the meaning of that gang sign arm thing he does after scoring?
I was really hoping Tony Snell would fall to us, but the Bulls took him at 20.
I don't really mind this pick because he's going to stay overseas for at least this year, meaning he won't take up any salary cap space this year.
It's time to put all of our focus on FA. We need at least one big FA acquisition, two would be awesome. Either Paul Millsap or Andre Iguodala would be my top targets, although they're going to command top dollar. But you have to pay for talent. Josh Smith and Al Jefferson will never be Spurs. A guy like Jarrett Jack would be a great pick up as as backup PG, but he'll likely command too much money. Even a guy like J.J. Hickson could bring some size and athleticism to our front court. We really do need to make some moves to go all in for #5 last year cause it finally will be our last shot.
@SpursDynasty Paul Milsap will be a great choice for the spurs. He can rebound and he is an underrated scorer. He can create a play on his own and score, does not need to rely on the PG to do everything for him.
