Partizan forward Davis Bertans (traded to the San Antonio Spurs during the 2011 NBA Draft) is currently on the road to recovery after suffering a right knee ACL tear during the Serbian championship game, which required surgery. Fast forward to today and he is in good spirits and is looking to come back a "beast" as he put it once he is back on the court.
Partizan would not have made it to the title game had it not been for Davis' efforts. From his shooting touch, monstrous dunks to his weak-side defense which led to some nasty blocks, Bertans had a huge hand in allowing Partizan to capture a championship this season.
The team recently put out an epic highlight reel of Bertans in action to thank him for his efforts this season and it is enough to make Spurs fans (and coaching staff) drool in anticipation of what he could do for San Antonio should he ever make it to the NBA.
Check out this awesome Bertans highlight video including a touching moment when the team was celebrating in the locker room and all huddled around him trying to lift his spirits.
I know that this isn't NBA competition, but I got excited over watching Bertans. What is he, 19 or 20 years old? I just heard that he was a shooter, like Dirk Nowitzki. Are you kidding? Dirk never had hops like this or ran the floor like this! Bertans protected the rim and blocked shots. He scored from outside (good shooting stroke) and in transition. If he recovers from the ACL tear, he could be someone to be reckoned with. He does need to put on some weight, but he's probably not full grown yet. He can weight train to add 10-15 lbs with his natural growth pattern. Bonner 2.0? Where did you see that? I had NO idea that his kid played such a solid all around game for his age. The fact that his teammates think so well of him also speaks volumes about the player he can be.
he has to show he is fully recovered from the knee injury but I say one more season overseas and he might be ready to play for SAS
How is he like Bonner ? He's White and from Europe, but really Matt 2.0 Show me some Bonner highlights of him dribbling through guys and shooting off curls and screens or blocking shots . If fact show me Dirk doing many of these things,
I'm a big Davis Bertans fan, and I hope he comes back stronger than ever. He'll earn a roster spot when he is ready. However, the Serbian/Adriatic League is not the NBA, and I think he does translate to Matt Bonner 2.0 ... I think the EXPnews guys got it right. Given his knee injury, picking up 15-20 lbs is not a good idea. Just develop him for what he is, and don't try to make him into something he is not. He is not the second coming of Dirk.
One of the EXPnews writer guys, a few weeks ago, in updating the "stashed Euro Spurs picks, referred to Bertrans as just skinnier Matt Bonner. When have we seen Matt dribble through 3 players and dunk or come from the weak side to block a jump shot, or pull up off the dribble and hit a 3 or.... This is actually going to be better than Dirk if he can gain 15lbs. He isn't an athletic freak, but is way ahead of MB or Dirk and can shoot with either of them. Thanks !
