everyones seeing this as a sign or a hint that we're gona do something else. while i think that is technically a possibility, i dont think thats the case. we have just one more roster spot. a spot the spurs normally like to keep open throughout the year. i see this more as the spurs feeling like theyre pretty complete, especially at neals position, and either them understanding they arent going to sign him or maybe even neal understanding that and asking to be an UFA to pursue something else if the spurs werent completely sure about signing him
I understand it may be time for Neal to move on, but it is always a shame to lose an asset you discover and develop, without ay return. I'm not one of these guys to complain against the FO - they have done an amazing job over the last decade - but there are definitely a couple of areas this summer where I wonder if we couldn't have got a better outcome. If we want to be contenders in the post TD era, the acquisitions of future assets now is critically important. Clubs like us who don't have the big market and crazy dollars cannot afford to leave anything on the table.Stein has a list of 10 clubs who have expressed interest in Neal - a second round pick leaves us in a better spot than we are now. Work them phones Spurs.
I hate to hear this, but I understand. I'm a huge Gary Neal fan, and I'd like to see him back. I disagree that he has poor shot selection ... he is a shooter who is paid to shoot. He has deep range, can shoot WITHOUT his feet being set, and has added a nice floater. He isn't great on defense, but he will fight through screens, and compared to other guys like him (Nate Robinson) he does actually try on defense. I'm sorry to lose him, but we have 8 guards, and 1 true SF. I'm not high on Oden. I'd rather stash Deshaun Thomas in Europe for this year as a long term option, and bring in Hollis Thompson in on a 1-year rookie deal. I see Deshaun as a replacement for Boris Diaw next year ...
@zerospurs they had one who is a better defender, he came to the Spurs
