The Bucks are interested in Neal, they are thirsty for a good shooter since Redick left. The best way to do this is via sign-N-trade. Trade him to the Bucks for a shot-blocker like Udoh will be a nice addition to the Spurs.
Neal probably has the quickest release on the team and although he has many of the faults mentioned, I'd rather have him in the fold than not. I agree that a trade is likely due to the stacked guards... I love Corey's speed, Nando is supposed to be a diamond in the rough, but it may take another season to bring it out (much like it did with Splitter). We need a consistent back-up PG for Tony and I'm not sure Neal, Nando or Corey fit that role yet. Would love to see a trade for JJ Barea.
stock pile guards isn't what we need... The Tiago deal has me wondering but Im still thankful. As seen in the last three years.. we need a big with some athleticism. More minutes is in the future too with keeping Timehe fresh. Look at the success they had with Diaw guarding Lebron. I say we need one more big .. not mid. Gary didn't play the best defense and please keep the ball out of his hands. Develop Joseph, share rolls with Bellineli and Ginobli on second ball handling. -maybe im just a Ryan Richards fan and want to see him in a Spurs or Toros Jersey. -
interesting, if we do in fact resign neal than there is a 100% chance there will be a trade of nando and/or cory joseph. how about trading those guys with a future first to twolves for j.j barea? but whatever we are stockpiling guards and more guards, it cant all be for nothing. spurs have something planned
Ship Nando and Joseph for a wing player would be great, could even throw in bonner in the mix to pick up a wing with shooting and defense abilities and try mills more as a backup to Parker
I'm a huge Gary Neal fan, and I'd like to see him back. He is an excellent shooter, he doesn't need his feet set to hit a shot, and has developed a decent floater. He isn't the best penetrator, but he can penetrate, and he has 3 years of experience in the Spurs system. He wasn't his best this last year due to plantar fasciitis, but so what. He is a quality player, and has had proven success in the Spurs system. If we can get him at the right price, I'd love to have Gary back. Stockpiling assets with attractive salaries doesn't seem like a bad strategy to me ...
@MOlsen You make a lot of sense. This isn't a terrible move, assuming the cost isn't too large.
I agree. I would love to keep him and find a way to deal De Colo/Bonner/ and possibly Joseph for a wing player or cheap big.....if that exists
In as much as a i want booner to be traded or even amnestied to create some cap space, we all know it's not going to happen. pop is in love with this guy! I however agree to trade either joseph or de colo, with preference to the former to stay with the spurs.
@dencio Bonner adds little value beyond his 3 ball, so I'm guessing he's a good locker room guy (like Patty) and that's why he hasn't been traded yet. If this is the roster going into the season, I can live with it... not sure there are enough valuable pieces to trade without messing with team chemistry or creating a longer learning curve with someone new. Wonder if Capt. Jack has thought about making one of those desperate Danny Green" phone calls to Pop asking for a job lol
