After months of deliberation, the Philadelphia 76ers have reached an agreement with former San Antonio Spurs assistant Brett Brown according to ESPN.com.
Brown's deal spans four years, though the monetary value remains undisclosed. Brown, 52, replaces Doug Collins, whose teams finished with a 110-120 record, including two playoff appearances, in his three seasons with the organization. Collins' sub-par record and inability to adhere to the new statistical regime made him expendable.
Brown spent the past seven seasons in San Antonio, giving him ample first hand experience from first ballot Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich. He also headed the seventh place Australian Boomers in the 2012 Olympics.
Philadelphia is in the midst of a massive rebuild, and Brown will have to quickly adapt to that new reality, a dramatic change after being apart of one of the most successful organizations in basketball. Brown is the second high-ranking Spurs assistant to flee for a head coaching job this offseason -- Mike Budenholzer signed with the Atlanta Hawks.
Former Indiana Pacers assistant Jim Boylen and Ime Udoka will inherit their respective roles on the bench.
I'll say bring back P.J. Look what he did with the Nets, I wonder Jason Kidd can do better?! (Even with KG and PP along with D-Will and Lopez)
Just a few names.... What other team has had this kind of impact on the NBA?
Brett Brown, Don Newman, P.J. Carlesimo, Avery Johnson, Jacque Vaughn, Monty Williams, Mike Brown, Danny Ferry, Sam Presti, Dennis Lendsey
@russman38 Collins was an old school guy. He didn't buy into the new advanced stats. The Philadelphia 76ers new front office is implementing an environment where advanced stats can thrive. Collins didn't want any part of it.
Good luck, Coach Brown! I wish the Spurs would bring back P.J. Carlesimo or Avery Johnson. Either one of them would be a nice fit under Coach Pop.
@JeffProjectSpurs Having many connections to other teams seems to me to be an advantage for Spurs
Wish him well. Tough spot to go to, looking at 60-70 losses next year.... or maybe they will hit their team name of 76.
