what we need to do is get rid of Bonner and mills and make more room on the roster so we can let these young guys learn the system straight from POP. Just sayin
@JeffProjectSpurs He was in the D-League all last year. At some point, you have to see what he can do in the NBA. Can he defend legit SFs on a first or second unit? My preference would be to see how he does in training camp, and possibly sign him to a 10-day contract, or a non-guaranteed contract like we did with Darius Washington.
Great read. I like Thompson for this very reason - he is a guy who is comfortable playing a role within the context of an offence (and defence). He has good tools and the right mind-set, if he can really develop his three point shot he could be a valuable rotation guy down the road. He's never going to be a star - but people underestimate how hard it is to develop quality role players and the value that they bring to a club.
I have no problems with Hollis Thompson being a candidate for a couple of 10-day contracts for the rotating 15th man on the Spurs roster. He isn't the only candidate though. Malcolm Thomas would be another possiblity for 10 day contracts. He was just released by Chicago, and did a decent job in his time in San Antonio. Maybe there is yet another unsigned rookie free agent lurking out there to invite. I don't think Deshaun Thomas will ever be an above average defender. He has promise, but not as a defensive-minded SF to back-up Kawhi ...
