If you can get the same type of production that Blair has given the Spurs and if he is better on D , then he is an asset. And I don't see him being undersized as a PF at all.
You guys continue to fry Blair and have spoke as if you knew the Spurs were going to get rid of Blair but that was never true and they could have let him go last year and pick up any # of big men that were available. However this could be the end of the road for DB.
Nay....on bringing Richards on board with the 15th slot or trading Bonner....bad moves, IMHO.
And Quixem...if you are going from comparing Pendergraph to Blair and saying to contain your excitement and then agreeing that he reminds you of a Dice, than I have to shake my head. If he is anything like Dice, that will be very big, especially in a younger, healthy body.
This guy is an upgrade to blair. I don't expect him to play major minutes but at least we got a decent back up to leonard with a nice short to medium range shots.
We have to remember that Tony Massenburg quality minutes as a Spur before. Both guys have similarities on the defensive end. He's actually a good acquisition no less. He can spot for open jumpers every now and then. He's definitely an upgrade to Blair IMHO.
You might point out that he did not play a single minute in one season because he had been with Portland. That translates to a season ending knee injury during the pre-season, and they couldn't keep him on the roster because it already had a number of injured players like Oden taking up spots. They needed some uninjured players on the roster that were able to actually play.
All the big names that were out their and people are excited about
getting Oden, JJ Hickson signed with the Nuggets for 15 mil for 3 years
and the spurs wasted 7 a year on Manu...Now we are crossing our fingers for
I don't believe Spurs are through. We have too many guards. Oden is more of a reach at this point than Richards, but with hard work this summer, positive attitude, and good production, RR could earn 15th spot and do what Baynes did this past season going back and forth from D-league. It can be a humbling experience when you are getting your butt kicked, but it makes you decide if you are willing to do what it takes to make it or not. He does have some tools and ability that could translate to NBA. J-Mike Green from Toros is interesting as backup to KL. Anyone agree?
the way i see it is this, the spurs have one more roster spot available but are waiting for oden to make up his mind, he cant sign another small forward, or another big which we are in need of those areas because oden is holding up the process. and he had the entire year to decide when the spurs were interested in january i believe so there is no excuse to be taking this long to decide. same for ak-47 but i doubt we are still in the running for him after the money we used on TIAGO SPLITTER!!! among marco, jeff and reupping manu
I hate to sound rude but all of you who posted before me are wrong and no offense, really. Zerospurs don't you know the way free agency works? Teams target the better players first since they're available than come the next tier and the tier after that, so where does Greg Oden fit?? Teams are probably still talking to Greg they just don't want to sign him to soon especially since we don't know how healthy he's going to be and who knows what his contract should look like... Zilla, where to begin... Ryan Richards is a joke, im sorry. I used to be a fan but the kid's attitude makes me think he'll never be a spur. He's a great young talent but none of that will ever transfer to the NBA because his focus and mindset are scattered around. I'll say this, if he can come back to the summer league and dominate he has a chance but I don't think he ever will.
spurs are still in the hunt for greg oden but he is taking his sweet ass time making a decision, you would think he would decide quickly so he can get used to the city and the teams plans and medical staff but hes taking longer than howard or took longer than howard to make a deicison and he has the past year also to decide, whats taking so long? decide already
What happen to Gregg Oden. They should have just took some of that money and signed Ryan Richards if possible.
@AdiDazzler You'd shake your head because I think he resembles two players? Never said he would BE McDyess -- just said that I thought the comparison was a good one. Chill.
@UsernameAlvin Fair enough.
@pafletcher001 Hey, I kinda like this comparison. Good call.
@ChrisCano This is so damn true!
guards today should not be paid as high as 7 million..... -_- big men should be paid higher...
@Boo-J Me! We need to make some roster room, Trade Bonner and Nando for picks and cash.
still think we should take a look at Greg Stiesma and Gelable as they were released from Minnesota. They might be in our price range but I am not sure. I would have been happier with Carlos Delfino as opposed to Jeff, but maybe the spurs see something we don't.. Is Leonard our only small forward?
@chrismelendez42 Lets judge you based on a speculation by a non researched report on this site. Richards hasn't been a problem for anyone, yet not knowing what transpired on leaving 2 teams and not trying out for the UK national team says he has an attitude. I wish I could read people's attitudes form 8k miles away from an unknowing sports writer report. Who is the idiot ! Richards got cut from the Brits and was told he wasn't ready yet. He tried to sign up for his Mother's national team, but didn't take the steps to do so early enough. He was let go by on team that didn't play him. The second team, didn't like his constant request to play, so they let him go. He played over 20 min for the 1st time in 3 years, for almost 20 games and lead his team is most major categories, not attitude problem reported. Quick judgments are poular these days, as many prefer opinion over knowledge.
@ZILLA It will depend on RR's performance at the Las Vegas Summer League. He he shows great improvements and scores more points than his last summer league I don't see why the Spurs won't give him a spot or at least put him on the D-League.
@ZILLA they still have one spot available... Please let it be RR!
@ManuParker Looks like their was no demand for Hickson with the contract he signed
@jojo707 @Boo-J Yea I can see that. I think Nano is caught in the shuffle now. Bonner has got good value that's for sure. We may need to go new route on that one and carry young guys at 13th, 14th, and 15th spots. Would still like a quick penetrating guard.... Veteran cheap quick guy ....Aaron Brooks maybe? I dunno
@Coxcr20 as of 7/8/13 kawhi the next superstar leonard is our only small forward, hes going to be playing close to 40 minutes a game so we dont need a game changer to back him up, we just need a competent guy who can play good defense and knock down open shots. a 3 and d small forward to back up kawhi
@quixem @ChrisCano That makes no sense we had a 6'7 center in Blair and 6'8 in Diaw. So to call Hickson undersized is a bit much to stomach. His 13 pt ten rebounds a game is needed we are turning into a shooting team and some beef and points in the paint are what we need..This conversation started with me saying Manu contract put us out of position to take care of a need we had.
@Coxcr20 rather thats deshaun thomas our a free agent guy remains to be seen. but even if we were going to sign somebody, we cant because we have to save it for greg oden, if he decides on playing for us or not.
