San Antonio Spurs' free agent Manu Ginobili announced via Twitter he has resigned with the team for 2-years.
The details of the deal haven't been announced, however, there was no doubt Manu was not going to return despite reports Houston was looking to add him.
Last season, he was starting to look worn down physically and wasn't the "Manu" of years past. But going forward, in what will more than likely be his final two seasons with San Antonio, expect him to be more of a facilitator rather than the night-in and night-out offensive threat he once was.
Ginobili averaged 11 points, 4.6 assists, and shot 42% from the field in the regular season. In the postseason, he averaged 11 points, 5 assists, and shot 39% from the field. However, he committed costly turnovers (especially in the NBA Finals versus the Heat) which drew the ire of Spurs fans to the point some of them did not want him to return.
Though contract details have not been released, he more than likely will see a pay cut.
Thoughts Spurs fans? What do you hink about Manu returning?
Manu signed for 7 mil a year we are all capped out and no room to sign another free agent...Great move not even one single move to put us back in the finals
@ChrisCano We have around five (5) million. Just enough to sign Carlos Delfino and JaMychal Green. Then and only then will we be complete.
@KawhiLights see your right all we need is Delphino and his 10 points a game, or another d-League player. What was i thinking with the cap room the spurs HAD and with your scenario we brought back a has-been a d-leaguer and horrible 2 guard....Wow you guys get excited for this garbage and clippers rockets and even the pelicans are making strides to be elite
Ginobili deserves to retire as a spur, and he is one of our better role players, so as a role player, he should do alright hopefully he got role player money.
@isaacd35 ginobili is much more than a role player go play basketball
I don't need to play basketball to see that ginobilis game has declined enough for me to call him a role player, although a very good role player, but never the less a role player.
@isaacd35 raptor305 is just his pen name, it is actually Michael Jordan...lol
Guys is an idiot, i mean go play basketball and you will see that Manu 11 pt a game with 2.6 turnovers he had last year is a game changer...Im shocked he wasn't in the all star game or finals MVP when his 11.6 point average and 3.1 turnovers a game put us over the top.
Worst move ever all you goofy fans are so happy to get a bum back and eat up cap space for a future, well lets ride manu into rebuilding mode...
@ChrisCano you're a troll heat fan for sure...and a sellout piece of shit if u want to kick manu out of san antonio...without him the spurs wouldn't be shit just another team. have some respect and go play some basketball maybe you learn something useful.
@ChrisCano From a Spurs perspective we are always in rebuild mode, which is why we have four championships and talented players spread around the globe. It is my belief R. C. Buford is always looking ahead and doesn't have to worry about giving Manu 7/yr. especially with a talented pool of players abroad and in the D-League to chose from in exchange for peanuts. The Spurs are still the Spurs of the early 21st Cenutry because we are constantly evolving. Evolving at such a slow rate where it becomes impossible to notice.
For example, it is obvious the Celtics and LA had no foresight (never evolving) and now are looking themselves in the mirror asking 'why?'. The next team to be staring back at themselves will be the Clippers. As for us, new talent on the roster or current players abroad will slowly fill the shoes of the current vets and the City of San Antonio will continue to win! So bringing back a player who has done so much for the City of San Antonio, as well as his native Country of Argentina has less an impact on us than say...the rest of the NBA. Go Spurs Go!
@ChrisCano damn man you are the most manu hating person i have ever seen. are you sure youre a spurs fan?
1st we dont know the numbers
2nd its 2 years where so far at WORST CASE before his numbers the spurs are only on the books for 35 mil (figuring splitter at 9 mil).
so we expect manu to be between 3 and 5 mil per year, id expect 10 total realistically. its not like he is eating a ton of cap space and its not like we have many free agents looking to jump on board as it stands anyway. the spurs still have the full mid level exception of 5+ mil, and the biannual exception of 2.5 mil so even with manu taking potentially 5 mil, the spurs still have between 7-9 mil to spend AND their exceptions THIS SEASON!
so we get it, you dont like manu, thats clear but get the facts and numbers before you start going off on how hes hurting cap space.
@JohnAbney Oh i am a spurs fan a bigger one then you that why I'm not looking at this move with hearts in my eyes towards Manu. I seen the numbers it was a i believe 11.6 pts and 3.6 turnovers a game average. Just dumb that we signed him before an offer was made to any free agent.
So when i say I'm a spurs fan it is the team not of the players that come and go, So i guess in two years we will be the celtics or the suns...great move
Good to know Manu gets to retire a Spur for life after this contract, how wierd would it have been to see him play in rockets jersey alongside Harden and possibly Dwight?? They (the spurs) made the right move by keeping him oh and for all the spurs fans who are or were hating on this guy just stop you all act like you could've done any better against the heat!!
hopefully him not playing for this native country over the summer will have him felling better thru out the 13-14 season. looks like timmy and manu will be retiring together. love my spurs!
There needs to be less pressure on him now at this point in his career. Leonard is now the third member of the "big three" in San Antonio if we still want to call it that. Manu is a competitor and a champion, but his best years are behind him. If we keep that in mind, then he is still a great asset to the team, especially if he took a huge pay cut. He is still good enough to start on many NBA teams and certainly a viable leader to come in with our second unit yet again. I'm okay with the re-signing personally
spurs made a huge mistake letting Leanard handle the ball with seconds to go, the ball should have been in Manu's hands he would have made the free throws and the SPURS WOULD HAVE BEEN WORLD CHAMPIONS 2DAY, NO THOUGHT!!!
VICTORIA TEXAS IS BEHIND THE SPURS AND MANU...
GO SPURS GO !!!
@REY5154 the free throw Manu missed with 28 secs in that what was that?
Let's hope he gets his shot back or can find out why he suddenly can't shoot. Something was off with him. Free throws, got sporadic, mid range was really bad and, man, he really couldn't make 3' for nothin' He started to get weird handling the ball. These things don't result from aging, so what was off ? Eye sight ? Stiffness in joints, back ??? Get healthy Manu ! A half normal Manu would have put the Heat away in 5 games. Who will we get this year ?????
