Give Thomas the last slot! He will back up Kawhi very nicely, and he is a lights out shooter. Screw Greg Oden, let him take his glass exploding knees to South Beach. Every Miami fan thinks this is going to solve their problems, as if he will play more than 15-20 minutes per game and NOT get dominated by the likes of Roy Hibbert.
Thomas looked great on offense. Beautiful shot. Shosts with a lot of confidence. I think its going in everytime. Because of slow foot speed and his body language, he will come off the bench.
His body language says he struggles with man on man defense.
James Southerland should have taken the oppurtunity that was given to Thomas. He would develop his game with the guidance of arguably the best talent developers in the NBA. Then have a real chance to make the team. It's too bad. Now he'll struggle to get a training camp invite.
He does need some physical development and a greater appreciation of defense for sure. He has too much offense, but is more like a 4. He needs to develop some 3 game offensively and defensively, which will be his biggest hurdle at least in making the Spurs final roster. That is highly unlikely this year in my opinion. I do hope we retain his rights somehow. Again he is too much of a good raw prospect to let go totally.
I liked the comparison of Thomas to Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson. Thomas is not a great athlete, but no one has really made him work hard on defense. That's where he needs to raise his game and become a better rebounder. I think he can develop into a consistent NBA scorer, because he's a natural scorer. Again, the Spurs roster is so crowded right now with a few guys that do the same things. We could still use another reshuffling for role player spots, but the FO is operating in stealth mode, so who knows how this will end.
