Update On Aron Baynes
Written by Jose Grijalva on .
As Project Spurs reported, Aron Baynes is heading to join the San Antonio Spurs. With new information from the DailyTelegraph.com.au, it appears the signing is all but official. His team, Union Olimpija, has wished him well in his new endeavors:
Thank you for everything and good luck - @aronbaynes! (@Union Olimpijia)
The site is also reporting about the contract San Antonio has reportedly offered him:
According to the reports, the 2.08m-tall centre has been offered a $3.5 million contract over four years.
If this is true, the Spurs struck gold with Baynes. He has the reputation of being the best big man in Europe and with the Spurs having limited money to offer, this is a great deal for the team's immediate future. With a long term deal, this will help the organization create a team with a mix of veterans and youth on a mission to win another championship.
@rtesoro440 can't help but be excited about how much the guy can learn from coach pop, play and learn from TD the way TD played and learned from DR til the transition, and just find himself in the system. We'll find out soon enough... Welcome news about Donte as well if it happens...more 'long' pieces to work on
Ok immediately he is like our 4th or 5th big. He is long and has excellent strength and still appears raw in his game. With more Spurs structure of which he is a little familiar with being on the Australian Natl team with Coach Brown, he may develop. Defend rim, bang, and rebound. If he focuses on these he may earn an early role. One day I'd like to see him able to pound and lean on Randolph, Kperk or Ibaka, Jordan, and Howard even for just a few minutes.
Like ALL spurs fans, I hope Aron Baynes comes out swinging and produces well. Whether it's him coming off the bench and making our second unit that much better, or starting next to Timmy and creating a young/athletic, yet wise and experienced front court, I just hope this turns out the way we all EXPECT it to turn out.
Added bonus is his stint in the Olympics gave him a chance to match up vs other bigs already playing in the NBA. Great move - hoping for good things for the spurs :-)
Can't wait till he gets on the court for San Antonio Spurs and shows what he got!
Not a bad team of the future... if we can get Richards to mature and develop his game in the next couple years, bring Hanga over in a few, Bertans, Patty Mills is still a youngster, now Baynes. Potentially another set of twin towers with Richards and Baynes.
@Ironwill71 i am gonna go out on a limb and say that richards will NEVER be in the nba. just a hunch
@JohnAbney @Ironwill71 Ryan Richards=Next Royce White. But really, WTF is he doing and why is no one telling him he is blowing his future acting like an idiot?
Richards?ha ha ha Are you kidding us?He's not even playing in serious club in Europe!
