Report: Baynes headed to San Antonio
Written by Jose Grijalva on .
According to David Pick, Eurobasket.com and Sportando.net contributor, Aron Baynes is on his way to San Antonio, Texas.
Aussie Aron Baynes departed from Slovenia this morning to head to San Antonio to complete physical and commence paperwork with Spurs. (@IamDPick)
This will have San Antonio Spurs fans excited to get more assurance Baynes is indeed on his way to the Spurs and very soon. We will keep you updated as the story progresses.
Man I hope this turns out great. Banes doesn't need to go out and score 20 points a game, although that would be sweet. I just hope he performs well on the boards and maybe can block some shots. We already average we'll over 100 points a game, so scoring is something we don't REALLY need more of right now. This is of course if he can gain pop's trust and actually get some playing time. I'm not too familiar with the way pop works. Does anyone know if pop would just ride him on the bench, or would he throw him in the fire right away? We are halfway done with the season and the playoffs are right around the corner. To sign a guy from overseas, it seems like this is a, "we kind of need this guy right away," type move. But I don't know. Maybe some of you seasoned spurs fans who've been watching the spurs before the 2007 championship run, (when I started watching my spurs) can enlighten me. But hey, if Baynes pulls out like 15 and 15 a night, I think we got a ticket to the finals. Hey, I can dream right?
@dannyholloway Why would I be trolling? That's why I asked if SEASONED Spurs fans can enlighten me. Pop didn't let Manu ride the bench when he was a rookie, especially in the playoffs. When Boris Diaw was traded here, Pop didn't let him ride the bench and threw him in the fire. Heck, Fabricio Oberto didn't ride the bench, seeing that he started alongside Timmy during the '07 Finals. So no, I'm not TROLLING you idiot.
@dannyholloway I'm not the one who says random things like, "Dude, it's LMFAO and SMH." You can't say anything intelligent back so you've targeted how I type, which is sad in an of itself. By the way, just because I type in caps doesn't mean I'm mad, it means I'm trying to prove a point. But I'd expect an incompetent person like yourself wouldn't understand.
LAUGH MY FUCKING ASS OFF and SHAKE MY HEAD.
@UniversalSecret Dude, you make this way to easy. I'm laughing over here and you're "TYPING IN CAPS!!!" Lol. Settle down, Beavis. Go back to your anger management classes.
@dannyholloway What, is there a law that says I must type the acronym?? For what? I'm choosing not to be fucking lazy right now and would rather type out my words. If you seriously have a problem with this, I have so much damn pity for you. You have NOTHING left, so you target my choice to type words out.
LAUGH MY FUCKING ASS OFF.
@UniversalSecret You must mean LMFAO....Don't worry. You'll get the hang of it at some point. I hope so anyway.
@dannyholloway I felt like typing it out, what the fuck is the problem?? When you call me on shit like THIS, you've run out of ammo. LAUGH MY FUCKING ASS OFF.
Don't you realize that you could have just typed in SMH, instead of typing out the whole thing. Are you new to the internetz?
@dannyholloway Loser with no life won't get off my ass. SHAKE......MY.....HEAD.
@UniversalSecret Lol. I'm actually sick today. Wasn't able to work, so I'm in bed with my laptop. This is no sweat off my back. So, if you are determined to have the last word here....you won't. Unless of course, you are the one with no life. What's your excuse for coming back to comment? Your fat girlfriend wasn't exactly seducing you with her fat fingers dunking her oreos in milk? lololol.
@dannyholloway Are you kidding me? "You probably have a fat girlfriend, I wouldn't go near it." WOOOOOOOW, I'm so hurt. Get the fuck out of here. I already told you to leave me alone yet you still come back and chat with me. Get a life pal. Your husband Oberto is getting worried.
@UniversalSecret Rape joke was definitely a 9/10. I can do a "your mom is so fat" joke. How about an "I slept with your girlfriend" joke? Nah....nobody would believe that. You probably have a fat girlfriend. I wouldn't even go near it.
@dannyholloway "Don't forget that this conversation originally never involved you." So? Who cares? What does that have to do with anything?? You clearly can't let this go. I already told you to leave me the hell alone. Kobe? LMFAO, he has a higher IQ than Oberto I'll give him that. Nice rape joke, quite pathetic though. Go back to fucking your boyfriend Oberto. Hey, maybe you should move in with him in Argentina.
For "not giving a fuck", you sure do seem to give quite the fuck. Don't forget that this conversation originally never involved you. So, going forward, next time you
"don't give a fuck"....don't tag me in a comment and get involved in the discussion. Mkay? Also, did they make Oberto posters? Lol. I've never jacked of to a poster of an athlete. Is it fun? Are you recommending it from first hand experience?
Sounds like you are. Go jerk off to your favorite player Kobe. You can fantasize you are a girl in a Colorado hotel room and he's raping you. That's it. Go jerk off to him raping you. Based on your internet personality, you are probably fucked up enough to do that sort of thing. Peace out
@JimmyPriour So why are you carrying on an argument with me and bitching when I wasn't even arguing with YOU in the first place? Stupid moron. Good job of accusing me of something when you are doing the exact same thing.
@dannyholloway I clearly don't give a fuck, I really don't. Shane Battier and Andre Miller? What is with your obsession with players with these types of players? They may have a "high iq," but they are not even all star level players who are good not great. Shit, I'll throw in a couple of players that have genius IQs. You ready? Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Jason Kidd. There, players with high iq's who are also legit players we will remember. Go back to jacking off to your Oberto poster and leave me the hell alone.
@UniversalSecret @JimmyPriour Universal D-Bag: For the record, let me clarify what's going on here.
My thoughts on Fab are actually the least relevant thing here. What was really going on here was AJ'sDad21 wouldn't let it go that stats somehow were a way to measure basketball. Fab was purely a paradigm. And I was using this paradigm to exploit Mr. Domingo's LOW IQ. Not Low B-Ball IQ...but just general IQ. Feel free to plug in another high b-ball IQ type of player there. Shane Battier. Andre Miller. I really don't care. And what's relevant is that in my initial contact with him I call him a troll. because his question was so fucking dumb I figured he had to be trolling. Otherwise he'd just be an idiot. Which I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt on. That effort proved fruitless. As are my efforts with you. Reasonable Internet Sports Fan....the guy no one has ever met. Big Foot.
@UniversalSecret He was already in the conversation, you were not. It had pretty much stopped, and then you chimed in and carried it on... you are literally bitching at him for the same stuff you are doing now. If you don't see that, you are the idiot. I'm just pointing out you are no better than anyone else, and that you are acting quite childish. But it is obvious you can't see any of this because it doesn't suit your brain.
@JimmyPriour Yeah, that was my point to danyholloway dumbshit! He could've said nothing and not added gasoline to the fire during his arguments with ajd21. I never implied something that meant, "Hey! Everyone listen to what I have to say, I'm right and you will always be wrong." No idiot. You are being guilty of it too. You are just adding more gasoline on to the argument. Fucking dumbass.
@UniversalSecret Sooo you can say whatever you want because "its a free country" but everyone else has to appease your ears and only talk about things you wish to talk about? If you wanted it to stop, you would've been better off saying nothing, instead of adding gasoline to the fire.
@dannyholloway I can jump into any conversation I want you jackass, it's a free country. Hey, remember that time Fabricio was an all-star and won a league MVP because of his high IQ and his ability to take over games? OH WAIT........... he was a mediocre player at best.
Why don't you move in with him you fake fanboy.
@dannyholloway Yeah, and you decided to make a case FOR him by throwing out his damn IQ. Please, this whole time you point the finger at others yet you are of guilt. From now on, dannyholloway will forever be known to me as the guy who tried to make Fabricio Oberto sound like a legit player. LMFAO, go back to jacking off to your Fabricio Oberto poster.
Oh ya...one last thing. Go back and read. I'm not even the one that brought up Fabricio. Domingo was. And my reply simply was that Fab was on the court becuse he was a very intelligent basketball player. That's it...that's all I said. So don't sit here and tell me to get over Fabricio or something....when I'm not even the one that fucking brought him up.
It amazes me how people don't know how to fucking read and freak out over nothing. Get over it. Nobody was even talking to you anyway, universal d-bag. You're the one that jumped into OUR conversation. Click on "unfollow" if your panties are that twisted about it.
Lol. You mad bro? I actually have probably thought about Fabricio once since he left San Antonio and couldn't care less about him. If you read closely I threw him and Boris Diaw as examples of people with high baketball IQs. That was it. I couldn't give a crap about Fabricio. I was just illustrating a point. As far as I can tell, you and Anthony Domingo are the ones that keep clamoring over the point and wanting to discuss Fabricio. He was someone with a high bball IQ. That was my point. That's all my point was so that I could illustrae my opinion on whether or not Baynes would play or not.
I think it's time to drop it. I reference ONE PLAYER....out of thousands that have played in the NBA as an example of someone with a high b-ball IQ... and you guys start going on about Fabricio being "discussion worthy." If you don't feel he is...then here's an idea: Stop fucking talking about it. Move on. Get a grip. And stop being so pissed off over it. It's just basketball.
@dannyholloway What the fuck is wrong with you? Who the fuck cares about Fabricio Oberto! The spurs would've won a ring without his ass. His contributions to the team weren't nearly as significant as Tim, Tony, Manu, Bowen, hell even Robert Horry!! So why the hell do you argue for him? Are you kidding? You just act like a defensive bitch when someone doesn't agree with you and your fucking fanboy love for Fabricio Oberto. He had a high bball IQ, SO WHAT!?!?!!! There are plenty of players in this league with high IQ's, who cares? I don't know why you would argue about someone up who couldn't get extended minutes and was moved all over the place. He went to Washington after his production drastically declined for the spurs in 2009, and even in Washington he just rode the bench and they didn't even bother to sign him again so he went to Portland. What the fuck are you talking about? You claim he wasn't even a "great" player. So why the hell are you even making a case for a typical, good player? Who defends a "good" not "great" player?? Are you kidding? You are wasting your time trying to defend a player who wasn't even that good, bitch please. All of y'all need to fucking cool it. No one here cares about Oberto anymore, he doesn't deserve mentioning. Shut the fuck up and talk about the the present and the foreseeable future. Stupid troglodytes.
UniversalSecret, much like your buddy ajd21 you read too much into my statement.
I make a simple statement that Oberto had a high b-ball iq and you start giving IQ scores and what level is high and what level is technically off the charts.
It's called hyperbole, children. Of course I don't think that Oberto was the Stephen freaking Hawking of basketball. I was just illustrating the point that Oberto was a very smart basketball player.
If you two don't like that I used the term "off the charts" and wanna split hairs about what his actual basketball IQ would be if you could score it, then seriously...you two can get a room. Otherwise, be reasonable and realize that you guys are making WAY TOO MUCH of my statement. His b-ball IQ was, indeed, quite high. Bottom line. Simple point. If you wanna split hairs about what's high and what's genius or whatever....go ahead. Have at it. You two take things way too seriously. Have some common sense. Jesus Christ.
@JimmyPriour @ajd21 AJD21: I never called Fab a "basketball genius." Just because one has a high IQ does not mean he is a genius. Don't put words in my mouth.
At any rate, I've already explained for you the difference between what stats measure and what intangibles doesn't. If you can't comprehend what makes someone an intelligent basketball player vs what makes someone a stats stuffer, then that's your problem. Not mine
Trying to convince you of this simple thing is starting to border on convincing a 5 year old that the boogie man doesn't exist. If you do not posses the ability to think outside the box, I can't force your brain to operate that way. I'm done with this conversation.
JimmyPriour: Thank you for being able to comprehend my point. This gives me hope. I never said that Fab was a "great" player. I simply said he was successful because he had a high basketball IQ. Apparently I've made him a god in the eyes of someone.
@ajd21 @dannyholloway Comparing 2 completely players that played 2 completely different positions, in 2 completely different offensive systems. High quality stuff. Anyone that watched Oberto play would realize he had a high bball IQ, it was obvious he knew exactly what he needed to do, but his actual talent never really met his brains. Numbers lie when you are comparing a super fast paced offense whose goal is to outscore your opponent into the ground to a slow it down half-court offense who wants to beat you with smothering defense keeping the game in the 80's. Out of all the big guys we've had after DRob up until Tiago, Oberto filled the role next to Timmeh the best. There is no denying it, does that make him great? No, but it makes him valuable to the team, regardless of what numbers he put up. Stats are more about opportunity than anything else.
@dannyholloway It doesn't matter the position, if one player plays 20 minutes a game and averages 4.8 points, and another plays 11 minutes a game and averages 4.9, there is something wrong there. It's a lot easier to score in the paint, under the basket than on the perimeter, that's a fact. That shows Fabricio was not very efficient. Tiago Splitter currently averages around 20 minutes a game, but averages 10 points, that's efficient. I'm not saying Fabricio didn't contribute AT ALL, because he did. He did some good things in the playoffs and I'm not saying he didn't do jack squat. But you are saying he has this incredibly high IQ and that he was so damn successful. And in this comment, you are making him out to be like he was VITAL to the spurs' success at the time. He was a part of the cog, but wasn't VITAL. Tim, Tony, Manu, and Bowen were the most important components at the time. Again, I go back to 2005. If Fabricio was so damn vital, had a high basketball IQ and was so damn successful, then you should say the same thing about Nazr Mohammed who started next to Tim in 2005. Also, you discredit stats, which is sad. NUMBERS NEVER LIE. Deal with it.
@dannyholloway You are blind to your own ignorance. You claimes Fabricio's basketball IQ was, "off the charts," and that he was "so successful." I'm sorry, since when does averaging 3 points a game for your career qualify you as having an off the charts IQ and being extremely successful? Just because Fab some pretty good games in the playoffs and started next to Tim in the finals doesn't mean he's a basketball genius. Of course, back in 2007, Timmy was still taking the load and Parker/Manu were young and on fire, so Pop never even expected much from Fab anyway. What about Nazr Mohammed? He started in the 2005 Finals, does he also have an off the charts IQ and was incredibly successful? Lmfao, you know nothing. What's wrong getting other people's opinions about a subject? I do that all the time. If I'm pondering something, I'd go to others for their opinions and insights. But of course, you would turn that into an insult and act like I can't think for myself. What a lame attempt to try and disqualify me. And I got insights from OTHER spurs fans. And yes, none of them agree Fab had an off the charts IQ, just a big guy we needed to give a big man presence in the paint. Pop and Timmy would talk nice about ANYONE on their team you idiot. Of course they wouldn't talk bad about their teammates, that's not like them. You think they would say, "Fabricio wasn't THAT great of a player. He was big, he had some talent, he was just a good player that's all, nothing special." NO DURRRRRRR! You think they'd say something like that? Of course they show praise and compliments. Is this your argument? Please, I've seen better reasoning skills from elementary school kids.
Also, as another point. You are exactly the problem with wanna-be know it all sports fans. You're gonna throw out stats to prove your point? And then draw Patty Mills, a 5 foot 10 pg as a comparison.
There's something called "intangibles." Things that can't be measured by stats, but are noticed by coaches and teammates alike. For those of us that actually played organized basketball, we know what these "intangibles" are. They're things that don't show up on scoreboards. Smart passes that lead to another pass that leads to a shot. A "hockey assist" if you will. Smart off the ball screening when you didn't even touch the ball. This is the stuff that allows PGs to find shooters like Ray Allen cutting around the screen on a "curl route." Screener never touched the ball and doesn't get a "stat' for it, but it's vital for the play.
THIS IS ALL THE STUFF THAT FABRICIO WAS GOOD AT DOING. And especially in the Spurs system at the time it was extremely important.
But ya know....you're a "stats" guy. Who consults other commenters on blogs who have never played an organized game in their life. Keep up the good work, clown.
I simply said that Fab had a high basketball IQ, because he did. If you view that as "glorification", then that is sad.
And you sough the opinion of "some spurs fans on other forums" to figure out how you should feel about the subject, then that is also sad. Good job thinking for yourself. Lol
Fab was a starting center on a championship team for a reason. That was not an accident.
And why don't you research how Pop and Timmy feel about Fabricio. Ya know....a couple of guys that actually know basketball. Instead of a bunch of Spurs fans from San Antonio that likely only barely graduated high school....if even if that. Spurs' internet bogs: ajd21's form of "research." How utterly laughable.
@dannyholloway Oh jesus christ, are you kidding me? You act like Fabricio was some extraordinary player. Off the charts IQ? WTF?? The guy averaged 3.2 ppg for his career. The most he averaged for us was 4.8 ppg!!! Are you stupid? His best season with us was in '07-'08 when he averaged 20 minutes a game while averaging 4.8 points a game. You know what? Right now, Patty Mills averages 11 MINUTES a game but averages 4.9 POINTS a game! WOW!!! Please, tell me how Patty averages the same number of points, yet playing half the minutes as Oberto? For some basketball "genius," you'd think he would score some more points. Stupid Idiot, I have NEVER read or heard any spurs fan glorify Fabricio the way you do. He was average at best. He wasn't some basketball genius. You are making a mediocre player out to be some fabulous player, YOU are the one who needs to keep reading and watching basketball. Saying someone who averaged 3.2 ppg for his career, of having OFF THE CHARTS BASKETBALL IQ, doesn't know jack squat and is a fake fanboy who is delusional. I cannot take you seriously for actually displaying Oberto to be some big time player. Also, I think you misread my question. I asked if pop would ride Baynes on the bench. Meaning, would he treat Baynes like Dejuan Blair right now and just sit him on the bench and only use him in garbage time. OR, would pop throw him in the fire. Now, that doesn't mean start him next to Timmy and play him 25+ minutes a game. It seems like that's what you inferred. I meant will pop just in general starting putting him in certain rotations, actually put him in some games where the game is close, actually use him in non garbage time, things of that nature There's a difference between the two. You said, "of course Pop is going to put him on the bench," Well, you just agreed that Pop will ride Baynes on the bench like Blair. You think Pop will ride a 7 ft, 260 pound big man on the bench like Blair??? Wow, you are more stupid than I thought. Also, I told some spurs fans on other forums about how you think Fabricio has off the charts basketball IQ and how you think he was so "successful," and they ALL told me to tell you that you are fucking retarded. Sad, but true.
Uh...wow. What do you think made Fabricio so successful? His daunting athleticism? His killer jump shooting? His basketball IQ was indeed very high. If you don't see it that way, you know nothing about basketball. He knew how to pick his spots on the floor and use his intelligence to his advantage. I.E. A high basketball IQ.
Keep watching and reading about basketball. You have a lot to learn. Besides, you're the retard that asks dumb questions like "durrrrrr...is Pop gonna play the new guy?" What are you, 12 years old?
@dannyholloway Fabricio's basketball IQ was OFF THE CHARTS?? Wow, are YOU trolling? Lmfao, whatever dumbass.
Lolololol. My comment was clearly in jest. ajd21 picked up on that.
Anyway, I'm a season Spurs fan. Boris and Fab are humongous exceptions. They're basketball IQ was/is off the chart. You can plug Boris on any team and he'd be an asset.
I think it just depends on exactly how Baynes reacts. Look at Tiago. Took him 2 years nearly to get into the rotation.
@JimmyPriour Yeah, I'm not expecting much out of Baynes anyway. In my first comment, I said that he doesn't need to even score that much, because we are already score a crap load of points. I simply said I would like for him to hustle on the boards, grab rebounds and block some shots here and there. I doubt he'll come out and be a beast right off the bat (which all spurs fans crave deep down inside), but only time will tell.
@ajd21 @dannyholloway Pretty sure it was a joke... If there is a role available and the player shows they can fill it they will get time. Baynes at best this year would probably be the 2nd big off the bench if he proves he can defend at an above average NBA level. Expecting much out of a guy fresh to the NBA regardless of age is asking a lot especially on a team filled with established players and 3 HoFers.
@dannyholloway @ajd21 Only way he gets time this year is if he proves he can guard athletic bigs in the pick and roll
