When Tracy McGrady signed with the San Antonio Spurs, it was a huge surprise.
After averaging 25ppg with Qingdao in the Chinese Basketball Association, it wasn't a huge surprise for his former employer that he got another chance in the NBA.
It's not just another chance either. McGrady not only advanced to the second round, but he's also contending for an NBA championship with a legitimate contender.
Quingado GM Shun Tin commented on McGrady returning to the NBA this season.
We hope T-Mac is playing well elsewhere and can get a championship. It's is a very good thing, and we would like to see it. (hupu.com)
He also mentioned that T-Mac and the organization have created a close relationship and Tin wasn't shy about the possibility of his team wanting McGrady to return if there's no suitors for him in the NBA.
If T-Mac can't find a suitable contract next season in the NBA, I think he will be back to CBA. He will still be our first choice, we are confident that we can get him to sign back.
McGrady will have a lot to prove for his next NBA contract, but right now he's chasing the title he's been longing for his whole career.
No one knows exactly how the playoffs will end or how much McGrady will contribute, but his next contract will certainly be on what he can show with the Spurs this postseason.
T-Mac just got garbage time in Game 4 of the first round and didn't show anything with two months off. He'll be expected to contribute something in the later rounds, especially if the Spurs get in offensive droughts like they're known to.
Whether he plays to his full potential or a shell of his former self, it seems McGrady will still have a strong following in China after this season.
In many ways T-Mac is like me and I in him. Mayhap he reads this, maybe not. The 4 Time Champions soon to be 5 does not really need him. Though his faith proves to me everyone gets their 2nd chance even though times seem bleak. Truth be told, never was a fan of T-Mac nor of any concern. Just a Spurs fan. I found out they let go of Jackson and signed T-Mac just for insurance. So I did my homework. Wow, truly an amazing story. This man has passion for the game and as hard as he tried, alone could not take a team passed 1st round. Spurs are a true Championship team. They are in sync like no egos before them. To know Tracy never gave up, an unsung Hero hidden in the shadows, underdog Legend who kept playing in China, forgotten by the business get a phone call out the blue to give him a Quantum Leap to the great status he deserves for fans alike and all soon to be. Yes, I am proud to raise a Champion. I get excited to see him play because imaginations have so much expectations to see his first points even for a couple minutes. That happened to me once. 8th grade, last game, we lost every game never made it to the playoffs. I was the shortest person on the team. Like Papa, coach recognized my heart and love for the game. He gave me only one minute so I can play the game. My parents also showed up. Everyone was cheering for me because they knew I never got to play and benched all season. As soon as I got the ball, I rushed to the goal, focused and made my first and only jump shot of the entire season. But the crowd starting cheering and I felt like a champion. I know he'll make a comeback. He's just getting warmed up. His story is an example of how the spirit lives in us. How else you expect to fire it up for the Champions? T-Mac your humility makes a great inspiration to know its never too late. Now's our time.
T-Mac is a great person. He's not going to score 50 anymore but he still knows how to play the game the rite way, so he can help the Spurs. I watched video of him in China and he looked like he still could play close to his prime, but the Spurs only need him to be a point forward.
@rtesoro440 Well he played like 4 minutes, and it was garbage time. I did see something though, during those small minutes in garbage, he made two pretty sweet passes. Tracy has always had great court vision. When T-Mac was younger, he was seriously like Lebron in the passing category.
