Skip Bayless is off the San Antonio Spurs bandwagon. They're not "his" Spurs anymore. In fact, he thinks they're out the first round because of the Tracy McGrady signing.
Spurs had TMac during camp, now reaching for him in desperation. Averaged 7 a game last 3 NBA seasons. Once again won't get out of 1st rd. (@RealSkipBayless)
Bayless may be going on a huge stretch on this. It's not a stretch the Spurs aren't as scary as they used to be to opponents, but more or less that he's putting the emphasis on the signing that will determine San Antonio's fate.
McGrady may play a huge part, but he's certainly not going to be the main focus of the Spurs' offense. He'll likely come off the bench for Kawhi Leonard, who may likely average more than 30mpg if the first round gets tough for San Antonio. T-Mac will likely be the 8th player in the rotation with the starting five followed by Manu Ginobili and whatever big off the bench Gregg Popovich decides to go with for the injured Boris Diaw.
Skip may have jumped off the bandwagon, but it's too premature to jump off because of McGrady. Unlike previous years where he was the superstar of the team, he won't shoulder the burden of the team this season. The Spurs' mentality is also different from the Atlanta Hawks, his last NBA team. The Spurs are more of a ball movement club who wants the best shot available over an isolation heavy offense.
If that wasn't enough for Skip, he went farther this morning after it was official that the Lakers would be the Spurs' first round opponent.
Spurs fans: I love your team but I have to be honest. What have you seen in last 20 games that makes you believe they can anybody, even LA?
Spurs 10-10 in last 20, 3-7 in last 10. TRIED for feel-good win last nite at home and got blown out 2nd half by TWolves! Sorry, Lakers in 6.
Lakers have won 8 of 9 and 5 in a row including 3 straight over playoff teams and 1 over Spurs. DHoward re-energized on D w/o Kobe. LA in 6.
As great as he's been, TDuncan at 37 will have problems w/ Dwight/Gasol. TParker can't push off ankle/get to rim. Manu rusty, gimpy. LAin6.
All these statements may make you think he's on a Lakers bandwagon, but S.A. are apparently still "his" team after all today.
I SURE HOPE I'M WRONG ABOUT MY SPURS LOSING TO KOBE-LESS LAKERS.
What do you think Spurs fans? Is Skip jumping off the bandwagon too early?
This coming from a guy who Thinks Tebow is a great proven starter and deserved to be a starter in the NFL...Bayless will say anything that is against the grain to have people talking about him...Remember when he said "Prince" James will never win a title, we know how that turned out...So im glad he is taking the Lakers in 5 since he has great judgment...GO SPURS GO!!!!
Yes plain and simple! Lakers don't have what it takes to win w/o Kobe. This year they haven't had it with him either. Playoffs are different than the last 20 games by a long shot. Skip is basing too much of his commentary on what did not matter for the spurs and what was absolutely essential for the Lakers to survive.
Skip is an idiot. We lost 9 of our last 17 games in 2005, and got blown out my Minnesota in the last regular season game. But the regular season is much different from the playoffs and Skip doesn't comprehend that. No Kobe in the regular season is so different than no Kobe for the PLAYOFFS. Skip is just displaying classic overreaction. When the spurs do eliminate the lakers, Skip will recant everything he said and look like a total dumbass.
I now question if Skip Bayless had really watched any Spurs games closely this season. I can't believe he actually thought the Spurs were trying to win their last game of the season against the T'Wolves. Ha! Wrong, Skip! Wrong! And he brings up the "10-10 in last 20 games, 3-7 in last 10 games" argument. Sorry, but I think momentum is a little bit overrated. The Spurs went in on a 10 game winning streak last season and won the first 10 games in the playoffs. Then, they get beat by the Thunder. I'll go back to the 2005 season. The Spurs finished 9-8 that season while the Nuggets finished the season on a tear. What happened that year? Well, the Spurs took care of the hot Nuggets in 5 games, and then eventually won the championship. Yes, Skip has jumped ship too early.
Well, miracles do happen still.Let's pray the old creaky legs of T-Mac still work; that Diaw gets well soon; that TP and Manu will be their old selves by Sunday and those bumbling, incompetent, amateur bench players recover their senses; that Danny Green remembers how to shoot otherwise it will be an early vacation for them. May Bonner and Blair remain in the bench.
The Spurs have actually played this poorly all season long, it's just that they started actually losing games near the end of the season. The last 10 games weren't even mildly important and they were resting at least two key players per night. I fully expect the Spurs to come back reenergized in the playoffs. I'm also glad Bayless hopped off the bandwagon because he's a complete moron.
Bayless is right. T-Mac isn't going to bring you much help despite some wing ball handling. TP is always a non-factor in the Playoffs when the game comes to crucial moments. It all depends on Manu, he's the biggest wildcard, his playing condition will decide how far we can go.
Wow, Skip Bayless was always consistent of his comments about Tim Tebow and the tauting of our Spurs over the year or so, but really it's real hard to argue about the stats of our team that he laid out. He is dead on. Even so, our Spurs will be tough and ready for the Lakers. Over the course of this 1st round match up with them, they'll be given by us a dose of reality that the REAL season has started. Bring them on, they want us they got us. Let's prove ESPN they are dead wrong about their predictions. In Spurs, I trust. GSG.
@JayceeTy What is Howard's D worth? Hack-a-Howard will put him on the bench.
@JayceeTy Actually, when you look at the experts' picks on ESPN, all but one guy have the Spurs winning the series. In fact, Tim Legler and 2 others have the Spurs winning in a sweep while Jon Barry (who had talk bad about the Spurs the past few seasons) and a few others have the Spurs winning in 5.
