Report: Spurs worked out Nigeria’s Oguchi

Written by Paul Garcia on .

Chamberlain Oguchi and Nando De ColoIf you mention the name “Chamberlain Oguchi” to San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker, Boris Diaw, and Nando De Colo, the three Frenchmen might have some memories regarding that name.

During the London 2012 Olympics, Oguchi lit France up with 35 points, 24 from behind the three point line, in a close game that France barely won.

Now it seems that same player who scored on multiple Spurs in Olympic play recently worked out for the silver and black according to SuperSport.com.

The guard also worked out at San Antonio Spurs in the wake of reports linking him to several NBA teams after an impressive show at the summer Olympics in London with Nigeria's D'Tigers.

“Took my talents to South Beach and had a great showing. Coach Spo and staff are amazing. Now time to take my talents to San Antonio,“ Oguchi recently wrote on his Twitter page.

Even though he worked out with the Spurs, Oguchi is reportedly ready to accept a non-guaranteed offer with the Heat as they have decided to take a second look at him according to the report.

From what I observed during the Olympics, Oguchi is a shooter with a quick release at the small forward position. He doesn’t awe you with his athleticism or ability to create his own shot, but if he’s put on a team where he can just stay as a spot-up shooter, he’s got a chance to make an impact.

Another report of a small forward a day after reports broke of Josh Howard visiting San Antonio on Monday could just mean the Spurs are looking for some more depth to add to their bench.

However, aside from Kyrylo Fesenko and a few other names being mentioned at the big man position, there’s a limited quantity of available big men who can make a quick impact out there right now on the market.

If the Spurs are looking to improve their front court, a move may need to be made, or they’ll be hoping that a full season of Boris Diaw, Tiago Splitter year three, and maybe a rejuvenated DeJuan Blair might be the answer alongside a consistent Tim Duncan.

I read the title and nothing else, didn't even look at the picture and I knew it was about some point/shooting guard. SMH. Remember that rumor about the spurs being very interested in Patrick Patterson, and Neal and Blair might be in the trade mix?? Is that a dead thing now, or is that still capable of happening?

@ajd21 He played at SF for Nigeria I believe...and haven't seen anything on that rumor in a while. At this point I doubt ANY trades happen until after camp starts. Teams want to see what they have now

Although unconfirmed at this point, I heard a family member of Japeth Aguilar has reported that JA has been signed by spurs (likely just a non guaranteed camp deal)...dont kill the messenger ;)

@Spursfan66 According to his Wikipedia page, Japeth's nickname is officially "Air Jap", he was drafted by the Burger King Whoppers, and he most recently played for the Talk-N-Text Tropang Texters in the Philipino Basketball Association. How badass is that? If he's got a camp invite, I think I know who I'm rooting for to get that last spot. Vamos Air Jap!

Queer news from thee, Sir Garcia. Me thinks a trade dost appear nigh, or lieth ahead of thee trade deadline like thee saucy and audacious magnificence of a 24 hour Taco Cabana after much folly and drink. Thy lump of foul deformity, Matt Bonner, may depart yet! Huzzah!

@KrisPittman @ryankxlu Translation: He thinks a trade might happen between now and the trade deadline (and apparently, he's comparing that to Taco Cabana. lol) and hopes Bonner will be included in the trade.
