Video: TNT's Kenny Smith says Spurs' championship window isn't shut

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

Like a broken record, the same question pops up before every new San Antonio Spurs season - is their window for a title closed? Yet time and time again, the Spurs prove they still got what it takes to not only have a successful regular season but also go deep in the playoffs like last season's run to the Western Conference Finals.

TNT's Kenny Smith was asked this same question and he believes San Antonio's window for a title isn't closed and says the team is just one player away from being champions.

Check out what Smith had to say about this season's team including what Tim Duncan needs to do to help the team heading into the new season and more.

The guy that Kenny's talking about had better be the big fella that they just got, Eddie Curry! We will be a successful team irregardless. We have become spoiled and maybe a little jaded! Because how many people really have enjoyed the standard of excellence that we have over the last decade?  And that's because we have the best basketball operation, top to bottom, in the league. Ownership, administration, scouting, and coaching. This translates into the best TEAM in the league! Which means that the cost of success is having to do more with less. No lottery picks, no huge splash in the free agent market. But I believe that our scouting and coaching staff, perticulerly of course "PoP" have a unique ability to find undervalued talent at bargain prices. And if that discription does not fit Eddy, then it does not fit anybody. This I know about Eddy Curry! He has more talent than anybody on that frontline not named Duncan! I had resigned myself to the reality that we would have another good season and make the playoffs (because that's how we roll--haha) but I had no delusions about us actually having the chance to get to the finals because without another impact big at the center position, I knew we were out in the first or second round! And the only possible player that we could get with that kind of potential who we could afford was (I thought) going to be playing for the heat this year. So you cannot imagine my absolute astonisment to come onto this site and find that my spurs franchise and me were apparently "channeling" each other!! Oh I know, he had some very serious health issues that did not have anything to do with his weight. But I trust that our medical staff has cleared him on that issue (his heart).

And Eddy, you have made a decision that is going to change your career. Because you are now going to be coached by the guy who is the absolute best the NBA has ever seen at bringing out the best in any player that he coaches. And you are in a position to be mentored by the greatest big man of this era. Big fella, you just hit the jackpot.

And hopefully, so did we!!!!!!!!!
