Video: Spurs' Ginobili says having Powell, Curry a 'big thing'
Written by Jeff Garcia on .
The biggest need heading into the new season is size on the San Antonio Spurs. Currently, the team only has Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter but after that, it's a considerable drop off. The team is undersized and can use some help in the paint.
And as training camp is well underway, Manu Ginobili says having Josh Powell and Eddy Curry on the roster is a huge help.
Whether Powell or Curry make the final roster remains to be seen but considering the squad needs help in the paint, it's not out of the realm of possibility one makes the team.
What about you Spurs fans? Do you agree with Manu? What do you feel about Powell and Curry?
This one I'm leaving to PATFO. Do I want us to get a big? Yes. Do I want these nova? Idk, i'll leave that to them to decide that.
@spursfan80 Ya, agree..Interesting that Bulls are liking Fesenko so far..Even more interesting is that they are hard capped and have to release all campers after the final exhibition game and cant sign anyone until November. Sounds like he will be available still at least for a while. Im curious to know if spurs invited him, and maybe he just chose Bulls camp. Im betting that Bulls will want him though since they lost Asik and seem to like him..although Marco Jaric is impressing them too I guess..Interesting anyway. I think many people are under the impression that we will only have choices of those in OUR camp..never know.
Interesting that now BOTH Manu and TD have made it pretty clear that they like the idea of adding a big. Hopefully they are making it clear to FO behind the scenes as well.
@Spursfan66 Everyone in the world knows we need a big. I'm sure they are hard at work trying to find a big, whether looking overseas, in college, or on the phones around the league in trade talks. Having gotten burned by RJ they seem to be being a little cautious, and trying to find the perfect fit. Aside from the affordable options, like bringing in these 2 for training camp.
My dream scenario is Ferry hooking it up with Josh Smith for jacks contract DJB and guard#28957
Well to see Curry, a true "BIG" is interesting. He wouldnt be asked to play more than 10 or 12 minutes or so or score 10 or more points a game really either. Defense, being physical in the lane, blocking out and decent rebounding, and leaning heavy on the likes of both Gasols or Howard or Ibaka. He seems in good shape and motivated. Powell looks like a power forward without a lot of power especially inside, but these are just first impressions.
@Boo-J Curry is too slow to defend the PNR and Powell to small to defend the Gasols and too small to defend the Gasols and Cousins of the NBA. My guess is the FO will doing some 10 day contracts thru out the season for a big.
@Titletown99030507 Still think they are upgrade at least defensively and rebounding wise Title. We shall see it is competitive and that is only good. Better quality than that will only come from some kind of serious trade. Pop won't like distractions of 10 day contract guys... those are generally a pain.
@Titletown99030507 ..but both would be more likely to D up those guys better than DJB if, god forbid TD or Sparkles gets hurt. Curry actually defended TD pretty well in the scrimmage, considering..I was surprised.
