Spurs waive Tyler Wilkerson

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

Despite having a solid performance with the San Antonio Spurs Summer League team (averaging 9.3 points, and 5.0 rebounds), Tyler Wilkerson has been waived by San Antonio today. The roster now stands at 18 with more cuts to come.

Wilkerson played sparingly throughout the preseason and averaged a mere 1.5 rebounds and 2.0 points.

With one less big man on the roster, it seems it might come down to Eddy Curry and Josh Powell for that final roster spot if the team decides to go with a big man. Something the team desperately needs.

I don't know much about Powell, but is he at least a decent defender? Has he always been a decent defender? Even when Curry had his best season back in I think '06 (averaging 20 ppg) even then he still wasn't playing good defense. Right now it seems like Powell would be the guy to go for, but I don't know. Someone enlighten me please.

i have it between Powell, Curry, and Brown. despite the fact that Brown is 6'8", he is taller than Blair and has the athleticism. i'd be happy with either one, preferably whoever breaks out more for the rest of the pre-season, which seems to be Powell so far. Witherspoon is most likely next to be cut, which will leave those 3 guys remaining.
