Other teams interested in Spurs' Curry

Written by Kyle Boenitz on .

Eddy CurryIf you’re like me, seeing Eddy Curry on the Spurs’ preseason roster was a bit of a surprise. We all know how much help the Spurs need in the post, but Curry has been considered a disappointment since he was drafted fourth overall in the 2001 Draft.

Curry has a documented history of being overweight and out of shape, and he’s had some heart problems that have kept him out of action in the past. He made a few appearances with the NBA champion Miami Heat last year, showing off a slimmer frame, but still not enough talent to make a long-term contribution.

Now he’s with the Spurs.

In his first preseason game, Curry played nine minutes, scoring seven points on 3-5 shooting and adding two rebounds. He’s not blowing anyone away, so the odds that he’ll make the final cut for the Spurs are pretty slim, but it looks like he may have other options.

“Even in the event Eddy Curry doesn't make the Spurs, word is he's played well enough to have drawn interest from several teams, which are supposedly keeping tabs on him,” tweeted Sam Amico. “Then again, Curry no longer seems like such a long shot to make the Spurs' final roster. The Bucks, Trail Blazers, Hornets and yes, Bulls, all may have an interest if Curry is cut loose.”

I’d have to see more of a sample size from Eddy Curry before I decided whether or not he should be on the Spurs. I have no doubt the right decision will be made just because of how good the coaching staff is at evaluating talent. There’s still plenty of time left to make an educated evaluation, but there’s no denying that the Spurs could use another big guy. This might be their answer.

enough with the trade Bair crap! he will be bringing it this year and shut people up! As for Bonner! get rd of him he's like Tony Romo of the cowboys inconsistant! Especially in the playoff, spurs ave plenty of three point threats! Soyes we do need anther big man! I think curry will do just fine i he dedicates himself playing deense!

I would still rather see Blair and bonner gone and keep curry and Powell can trade or drop Joseph back to dleague and keep the two bigs...I see Nando and Neal and mills filling in as guards we have enough smalls let's get the bigs signed up...fans what do u think??

I am totally with you although I don't really see Blair as a liability. It's not his fault that Pop just seems to stubbornly ignore the fact that he's an undersized big and insists on  playing him primarily at center rather than the four where he can be more effective. Pop should have played him more against the thunder in the playoffs. He killed the thunder in the reguler season so I really put that one on Pop! Bonner is the guy that really has to go. He simply cannot compete against the bigs in the west down low and we absolutely must add toughness and size in the paint. And yes Joseph can drop down to the D league for more seasoning. He is not really needed this year.

I think we all know who the dd man out is here. And it is not Curry or Powell or Blair! We all saw how utterly helpless Matt was against the thunder last year.  I mean, we all appreciate Matts contributions to this franchise thru the years but the cold hard truth is that he was exposed (in the series against the thunder) t as an absolute liability when his shot is not faling. Andt the thunder showed that if you attack him on the 3pt line by not allowing him to become "set" for his "set" shot, he becomes almost useless. He is reasonably atheletic an certainly big enoughf, but he an neither defendor rebound against aggressive, forcefull bigs! An because he does not have a true jump shot, when defenders rush out after him aggresively the way he thunder did, he has to rush his shot. And that throws him off. We have enough shooters. What we desperately need is what both Powell and Curry have the potential to provide. Ruggedness and physicality under the boards and n the paint. I know we all have a true fondness for matt but the reality is, he has become a luxury that we can no longer afford!

the spurs need to get big inside they need size epecally when it comes to playing the lakers and thunder if it was me i would keep both powell and curry and cut blair he sucks anyways and its not like he can put up big numbers to begin with i think he was a wasts of time for the spurs. and i would also try and trade bonner for someone who i know will step up in the playoffs. then i would have curry and td start with tiago backing up td and move powell to center backing up curry.

Nice choice Curry or Powell, what about Brown,a high flying who could help speed ball..Going back to your question,i suggest trade or amnesty someone on guard spot wherein De Colo is another point guard then Josh and Curry would fit in..Later if spurs plans to cut one before Jan.10  it would be good to see the best choice when these two guys will be playing til December..Am i right?

My question the last time was, why don't the spurs or can the spurs keep both josh and eddy on the roster and maybe trade or send someone down on dleague?? Just a suggestion?

Curry and Blair who you rather have?

Yea Curry would have to show some more initiative like he did at the end of the Siena game to be considered a factor for a roster spot.  When players come to the Spurs it is kind of an awakening, because of our expectations, personality, character, professionalism, and Pop's ever present critical eye and tongue when he sees the need.  He (Curry) could ride off into the sunset of his career with a ring or two.  Crank it up a few notches Eddie!

Ahhhh.....one good pre-season game for Powell and now he's the one? Calm down people, give him a couple more games and I guarantee you'll be changing your tunes.
