Manu extension coming? What about Jackson?

Written by Trevor Zickgraf on .

Stephen JacksonHappy Friday, San Antonio Spurs fans! Fridays are normally don't bring a ton of news as most people are looking to bolt the office for the weekend.  But not your San Antonio Spurs. Oh no.  Let's dive in.

-Stephen Jackson already looking for a contract extension? Oh come on, you knew it was coming.  The San Antonio Express News' Mike Monroe reports Jackson says he's happy with his role in San Antonio, but he's also hoping for a contract extension. This isn't exactly surprising news, though the first week of camp does seem a bit early to hear about it.  Still, he was asked about it, so what's he going to say?

-Is Manu Ginobili's extension coming? Remember when some idiot opined about the end of the Manu Ginobili era before Training Camp even started? Oh wait, that was me? Well, according to Julian Mozo, Manu may be in line for an extension very soon.  No word on how close it is or for how much, but I'm guessing another two years, which is also when Tim Duncan's contract is set to expire.

-In case you missed it, Air Alamo has the latest on Cory Joseph switching agencies, but not agents.

That's it for now, Spurs fans. Two pretty big stories coming out to close out the week.  Don't forget, the Spurs first preseason game is Saturday night, when the Silver and Black host Montepaschi Siena at the AT&T Center at 7:30 p.m. Check out Project Spurs afterwards for a full recap on the opener.

I know we all think Manu's going to resign at the end of the season but I still think he may retire after the season depending on how our season goes and if he ends up having a lot of injuries.  To him he's accomplished everything he can in the NBA so what's left for him and why keep playing until he has nothing left?  I heard him say he really missed his kids and never really got to see them much this summer so you know how it is on him during the season.

@kmgospurs He will re sign..he's still got plenty left..still is 3-6 in last several years in PER among SGs, was best player for ARG this summer, and so far has shown best for Spurs in camp. Only  a serious injury would make him want to retire imo.

If its true that the new CBA says Manus' extension is limited to a 7.5% decrease of his current deal, I cant see an extension getting done. I love Manu, but no way I would give him more than TD. Probably best to just sign a new deal in summer like TD did.

Great news to hear. I'm sure whatever offer Manu gets will be worth it, and he deserves to retire when the greatest power forward of all-time retires. And as for Jackson, I'm curious to know what his next contract will be like, but it's good to know that he's interested in staying in SA for good.
