Video: Kings' Cousins responds to Sean Elliott's comments
During last night's San Antonio Spurs-Sacramento Kings game, Spurs' TV commentator and former Spur Sean Elliott took offense to DeMarcus Cousins and his disrespect for Tim Duncan. Apparently, Cousins was talking trash to Duncan and Elliott felt that was just uncalled for especially with the trash talk aimed at a future Hall of Famer.
Elliott voiced his displeasure for Cousins' behavior and called him "immature." Word got back to DeMarcus and he fired back at Elliott calling him "immature" and said he has nothing but respect for Duncan and more.
I appreciate Elliott looking out for TD and agree Duncan deserves much respect from his peers.
On the other hand, Cousins or any other player shouldn't lower their game just because it is a well-established player like Duncan. These players are uber-competitive, show much emotion like Cousins and let's face it, trash talking is part of the game.
The Spurs-Kings game was close for most of the game and in the fourth quarter (when Cousins started to jaw at TD) emotions flare and players will use any advantage they can get to try to pull out a win.
In the end, the Spurs won and Duncan got the best of Cousins in the box score with TD finishing with 23 points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and a win for San Antonio. Cousins ended the night with 14 points, nine rebounds and a loss to the Spurs.
Moreover, let Cousins or any other NBA player talk trash to TD. It seems to just fire up Duncan and he will make sure school is in session that night for the player daring enough to jaw at TD.
i like it when people trash talk especially to Timmy he gets off on that shit.
Timmy is looking great yet again this year and to me is getting the proper amount of touches for being Tim Duncan. We have neglected him for 2 years now. My guess: Timmy says "If this is gonna be my last 3 years.. I want to play damnit"
Anyhow -- let em talk trash. But Cousins talking shit to Sean Elliot only proves Elliot's point; he's immature.

Cousins is a prima donna. Forcing his own coach out just because he couldn't take criticism and didn't want to actually work. He always complains about calls, and now getting in a fight with Timmy. Immature is definitely the word I would use to describe that behavior as well.

I hope Sean Elliot comes out of retirement just to slam one in Cousins face himself. That would be rad.

It's not about another player "lowering their game"; it's about not tempting fate by pissing off Timmy. I don't think anyone expects other elite players to be in awe of Tim Duncan, but Sean is right when he says there should be a certain amount of respect when a player such as Tim is your opponent. If I was Cousins, I would start by not yelling "I'm going to bust his $^#!!" at his bench when Timmy's within earshot.

As soon as Cousins started doing his best Shaq impersonation and started talking trash to timmy, TD just absolutely went off. Got a couple blocks and a steal all off Cousins and a couple of buckets including a pretty emphatic slam with Cousins being the closest defender. Cousins is a punk, Timmy put him in his place, and I loved watching him do it! I sure wish they would fix their turnover problems though
