Pop calls Spurs 'an embarrassment'

Written by Kyle Boenitz on .

The San Antonio Spurs only have three losses on the year but two of them came at the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers. The team is 4-3 in their last seven games after starting the season 4-0.

Add up all the struggles and tack on some injuries and it appears frustration is starting to set in. It’s way too early in the season to panic, but I’m sure Coach Popovich wants to get his guys back on track as soon as possible. It’s hard to say if Pop wanted to motive his team or if he really was underwhelmed with the Spurs’ performance, but he had some harsh words after Monday night’s game.

Funny enough, you would think the 22-point loss the Spurs suffered to the Clippers less than two weeks ago would be the embarrassing one, not the one where they lost by five.

I’m not going to criticize Pop for calling out the Spurs. We all know he’s a brutally honest guy and we love that about him. If he wasn’t impressed with what his team did and thinks they should play harder, he has the right to say it. Rest assured, no matter what injuries or slump the team is dealing with, he’s going to make sure they get it together. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them run Boston out of the gym tonight.

Why defend the Spurs for losing AT HOME to the Clippers?  Great teams defend their home floor.  We got outrebounded and pushed around.  We shot terribly, except for the run we made at the end.  I did think the non-call on Chris Paul's charge on the clinching basket might have made a difference.  Pop is right; we didn't compete for 48 minutes, which you must do against playoff level opponents.

It's not too late for a tryout with Brett Gyllenskog.  I hear great things about him.

Hardly! the Spurs mgnt and the coaching staff should be blamed for not signing someone who could protect the rim and let Griffin have his way. They are BLIND or outright impompetence not see their defifiencies. Insisiting on having short sized players is the height of ignorance that basketball is a game of giants not LILIPUTANS! Coach Pop's role is put to questiion. He asked his players more than they could do. SOFT? Come on Pop! TD is no Superman. He is human. Down with GM Buford and Mr. Holt.
