Spurs, Clippers set to face in Semi-Finals

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

The Los Angeles Clippers have defeated the Memphis Grizzlies in seven games to advance to the Western Conference Semi-Finals and face the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 this Tuesday in San Antonio.

The biggest spotlight will be on the point-guard matchup between Tony Parker-Chris Paul matchup as these two players finished in the top-five in NBA MVP voting with Parker finishing fifth.

Of course there are plenty of other matchups to watch for (Tim Duncan vs. Blake Griffin for example) but here is how the Spurs and Clippers fared against one another during the regular season.

As you can see, the Spurs won the regular season series (2-1) including the nail-biting game where Gary Neal hit a clutch three-point shot in OT.

What do you have to say Spurs fans? How do you see this series shaping up with the Spurs having lots of time to rest since sweeping the Jazz and the Clippers coming off a physical battle with Memphis?

it will not mater who we put on him, blake griffin has already sorta checked out. he ASKED to come out of the game 7 in the 4th quarter. his knee is apparently pretty jacked up. means we can focus more on the guards/wings. cp3 will play 40+ minutes in every game likely. he and bledsoe should be the main focus.

I'm expecting a sweep if we continue our stellar play and everyone is healthy.

CP3 and TP9 is going to be an excellent match-up, no doubt. And I hope Pop gives DeJuan a good share of minutes on Griffin, I think they match up very well but Blair is more physical and just overall always seems to look more determined when playin' his pal Blake.

Caron Butler and his crazy eye will wish he had chose the Spurs...

but fuck it we got Cap'n Jack and I prefer him over both Butler and Josh Howard.

@russman138 Cap'n Jack makes love to pressure while Caron doesn't even get to 1st base.

Clippers are hurting, but they won't be rusty.  Spurs been sitting too long and might show up a little rusty.  Regardless, Spurs in 6.

But I won't be surprised if we take it in 5 or even 4.

The clippers are hurt and limping home while the spurs are fully rested and peaking. The spurs will sweep the clippers. Go Spurs!

@growndhawgg the playoffs started later then normal due to the lock out. the nba has to be completed and over by a certain date so to make up for the shorter time frame and because the clips/griz went 7 we get a B2B.

@JohnAbney  @growndhawgg yep, and not to mention, the Olypmics are right around the corner, so the playoffs need to be done ASAP so that the players who are participating will be ready.

Look at the box score of game 7 between Grizzlies and Clippers, The Clippers FG% was so LOBSHITTY that i'm not worried bout the Clips.

I say Spurs in 5. CP3's heroics can never be counted out. However, with TP running him off of countless screens and them fighting tooth and nail every game for the title of best PG in the NBA, I see CP3 tiring out and re-injuring that annoying groin of his. All the Spurs have to do is prevent the lobs off of the pick and rolls and we're good to go on defense. The Clippers regularly shoot themselves out of games and it's that type of offense that the Spurs know how to frustrate the most. So, CP3 will go beast mode and closeout a game in LA, but TP, Manu, Timmy+ DEEP BENCH= Spurs in 5.

Again like the first rd., the Spurs will breeze through this. And we have to credit the bigs of MEM for 'bruising' Griffin haha.Seriously, w/o Griffin at his best, There's no other frontline player that can match up against the Spurs frontline. Martin? Nope, Duncan run rings around that guy 9 years ago in the finals and he will still run rings around that guy on this series. And with Paul logging a ton of minutes on the first round, With a whole lot of bodies on the bench that will defend him besides TP, it will be hard for him to sustain that kind of stamina on the second round.

Spurs in four. Unless they slack up in game 4 after a 3-0 lead.

@AlvinPatacsil man, i remembered game 6 of 03 finals. duncan was a fucking beast, blocked every shot and dunk by maritn. martin probably went to therapy after that game because duncan straight up raped him.

@jerico21  Martin's face that time together with his hands is like a walking target practice for Duncan. Poor guy met Duncan at the prime of Duncan's career. If I'm not mistaken, Tim was 2 or 3 block shots short of getting a quadruple double at game 6.
