Video: Nando De Colo looking good in recent game
Written by Jeff Garcia on .
The San Antonio Spurs may be right in the middle of their truncated season but it is never too early to check in on the future of the team.
Nando De Colo, drafted by the Spurs in the 2009 NBA Draft, is currently playing for Spanish team Valencia of the ACB League and in a recent win against French team Gravelines at the EuroCup, De Colo is showing marked improvement in his game. From timely assists, ability to get in the lane to hitting his outside shot, hopefully the Spurs can bring him in next summer for the Spurs' Summer League team to see if he is ready to make the jump to the NBA.
De Colo notched 19 points, 7 assists, 2 steals in 30 minutes for Valencia in a 69-63 win.
What do you think Spurs fans? After seeing this footage, do you think De Colo needs to come to the Spurs now or later?
I'm sorry, but I'm not a fan of Joseph at all. I am a big fan of de Colo and he has had some huge games for France over last summer. Bring him over and have him be our backup PG; he would be huge for the Spurs. Hopefully in the future we can get rid of Bonner, RJ and Joseph for Okafor, and bring over Richards, de Colo and Bertans, and I feel like we would be very set for the future.
If you know basketball, and the Spurs, you won't get too caught up in an inch or two, or raw speed... Manu isn't fast but shifty, and Tony Parker is a mismatch for guys much taller because of his game speed. There are guys that are greased lightning fast and don't do squat, guards faster than Manu not half as good. Nando is more than tall enough to play either guard position at 6'5", especially with his style of play being similar to Manu's. Its about mismatches, and Pop will find them. If this season has illustrated anything, Manu's reckless style of play is both effective - and dangero... inevitably leading to injuries. We must have a strong backup. Nando is from the mold of Manu and ready to blossom, if we can get him into NBA-level competition that will bring it out of him... with Manu and Tony there to assist. He's 24 (25 in June) and isn't getting younger. The time was yesterday for this guy... the Spurs need to get him over here before the time is past.
Nando deColo is too short at 6'5" to replace Manu. At pg, maybe. The spurs must draft a taller player.
@rtesoro440 @kmgospurs dude....manu is 6'6....i hiiighly doubt 1 inch is gona be a major difference. especially because he doesnt look stocky or anything, he looks pretty long which should offset any worry of height and anyways manu doesnt play big either so its not like manus a bigger 6'6 who plays swingman, if anything he plays small and is a combo guard which is what nando would be. i understand our height concerns when it comes to our bigs, but in this case that 1 inch is irrelevant
@rtesoro440 @kmgospurs 6'4" is a little trickier cause now you are giving up more size and now it'd depend on the body type and defensive ability. I've always been hesitant about neal, for example, being the "future" sg not just because he's 6'4, but because his skill set isn't similar to manus, he's not super long so his height disadvantage IS more obvious on defense, and he's stockier which goes with him not being very long. I will give him this though, he's become more than just a shooter and does have a quicker first step and drive, he looks less stocky and leaner compared to last year, and his defense has improved so I'm a little better with him at sg now. Think of it this way, is dwayne wade supposed to be a pg because at 6'4 he's too small to be a sg? Cause he's one of the best sg out there. Deron williams is 6'4 and is a pg, but everyone admits it creates huge matchip problems. So IMO when it comes to two positions that are close in height to eachother (like pg/sg, pf/c) you can usually get away with like an inch or two as long as the abilities to play the position is there
We should already have him over here... we've wasted some good years now he could have had with the Spurs. Just think how young TP was... Nando is now 23 or 24? Think of what he could be doing at the SG spot with Manu out. Ugh. Presti would have figured out how to get him. If he's not here this summer I will be very disappointed in the Spurs.
@JeffProjectSpurs The Spurs need to stop talking about De Colo,Ryan Richards and just get them over here what are they going to do wait until they're both are in their late 20's or early 30's.You gotta give De Colo a chance to learn from Tony and Emanuel also for Richards to learn from Duncan what I've seen of Richards looks like he has a good outside game but no post, Duncan can teach him what the post is all about. as for De Colo Tony and Emanuel can show him how to succeed in the Spurs offense, getting to the lane and using the pick and roll game effectively.I just don't want them to have another Luis Scola situation on their hands, at least get them in the D-league.Now with this Chris Kaman trade talk can't the Spurs just give up a second round pick and the rights to Loberk,Bertans?
@ZILLA No, not Davis Bertans. He is the future small forward of the spurs. At 6'10", he will be the futre Durant.
Right now would be awesome but wait too long than he'll get old as years go on. Patience is key though, wait a year or two minimum.
@koshwayne he will never be quick but he is a big guard and can handle the ball pretty well. let's see how he does in London playing with France at the Olympics
@JeffProjectSpurs @koshwayne I think he could become a quick guard, changing his game from Euro-League to NBA style. Working with the trainers from day-to-day, getting used to the system & everything will eventually fall into place.
@rtesoro440 @Ironwill71 @koshwayne plus he left his swiss team due to "personal" reasons. rumor is he wasn't getting along with coaching staff
@rtesoro440 @Ironwill71 @koshwayne what doomed him was the lockout. i am sure he was set to join the summer league team so that set him back more. however, seeing him vs. strong international competition in the olympics this summer should be a true test. plau playing with TP will be a bonus.
@Ironwill71 @koshwayne @JeffProjectSpurs
I don't know if Ryan Richards is ready. He is so young. First, be with toros to test him.
@koshwayne @JeffProjectSpurs Too many people think speed is everything. Manu isn't fast, he's shifty... that's what Nando is and can be. But its going to hurt him not being in SA to learn from Manu... and like Zilla said get Richards into SA to learn from Duncan. You don't have to give these guys minutes, just get them in SA to learn from the best. There's no price you can put on that.
