Spurs RoundTable: Evaluating the Jackson trade

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

On this new episode of the Spurs RoundTable, Project Spurs' Michael De Leon, Humberto Cervera and Trevor Zickgraf break down the recent San Antonio Spurs' trade for Stephen Jackson from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Richard Jefferson.

All three gentleman agree it was a great trade and weigh in on their thoughts on Jackson and what he will bring to the Spurs.

Also, when the topic of Tiago Splitter came up, Humbie and Trevor have differing opinions about the big man and I am sure Spurs fans might disagree with Humbie. All this and much more on this episode of the WOAI Spurs RoundTable.

What do you have to say about the Jackson trade Spurs fans as well as Splitter and his role with the team?

Jackson is NOT the player the spurs needs. While he maybe the better player than Jefferson, the spurs needs a big man.  It doesn't serve any purpose. Now that Turiaf is available, the spurs should pursue him. He has the height and nba body.

well, I am actually hoping we can sign diaw who might help if he is motivated to lose some weight. I think turiaf kind of sucks. He is not a very good player and bad skills, which is probably why he got waived. We already have blair, who is a similar player in terms of energy but with better skills. If not, they it would be a good idea to give a chance to people like Julian Wright or somebody else on the toros.

Having said that, the best way to improve the roster is to add some size, but somebody who is worse than blair or bonner is not the answer as all. Also, I am wondering whether you know what is up with the situation with patty mills right now. That kid can ball, but trust me, just watching some highlights of turiaf does now show how bad he is overall.

@shawnthefreak Actually what concerns me is his defense. He is a very good shot blocker, but he makes a lot of bad mental errors in transition like blair. That is why I say they are similar. Having said that, I believe if we cannot get diaw, this guy would still be an upgrade because we need some size and toughness on the interior. However, if you are expecting a tyson chandler type of player, trust me, you will not be that happy with him. He is no where near that level of defense or reliability.

@antarescrane Turiaf is approximately 3~4 inches taller than Blair, and he plays tough defense, he may not have the "Skills" you talked about, which probably you're saying scoring, but he plays much better defense that Blair can never achieve in his career.
