Spurs' Joseph heading back to Austin

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

The San Antonio Spurs have sent rookie point guard Cory Joseph back to their D-League affiliate Austin Toros.

Joseph has seen action in 27 games for the Spurs this season, averaging 1.7 points and 1.1 assists in 7.6 minutes.

Joseph has had two stints with the Toros this season. He has seen action in six games, averaging 10.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.67 steals in 30.7 minutes.

Sending Cory back to the Toros could signal the Spurs officially signing Patty Mills or Derek Fisher as backup point guard since T.J. Ford has retired. The Mills signing was all but done until it was discovered the Blazers hadn't renounced his right quite yet. Also, with Fisher being released by the Rockets, it would not be a surprise to see him in black and silver (as odd as that might look) but the Heat, and Thunder are reportedly the front-runners for Fisher's services.

Nocioni is waived by the 76ers. Will the spurs consider him?

Joseph to the austin toros. Is recruiting Mills or Fisher in the offing? Fisher is old by nba standards and are the spurs picking bread crumbs? Or is the spurs signing Turiaf or JJHickson? With Joseph out, there are only 11 players in the lineup. 10 days hence, the contract of Dawson expires leaving just 10 players. Kaman maybe waived by the Hornets. With Turaif waived by the Nuggets and JJHickson waived by the Kings, there is an abundance of big men. But are the spurs coaching staff and mgnt doing anything to upgrade their lineup? They were after a big man. Now they have the chance. The coming of Jackson does NOT answer the problems bugging the spurs. He is NOT the man they need. They must be dreaming if they think to defeat the grizzlies with Randolph returning or the Lakers with an improved lineup. They MUST sign either Turiaf or JJHickson or both to be relevant and Mills NOT Fisher.
