Spears: Jazz don't want to trade Howard

Written by Trevor Zickgraf on .

Monday night, Hoopsworld's Alex Kennedy wrote that the Spurs, Jazz and Timberwolves had started talks involving Danny Green, JazzJH forwards Josh Howard and C.J. Miles, guard Jamaal Tinsley and Timberwolves guard Wayne Ellington.  For the San Antonio Spurs part they'd basically be swapping out Green for Howard.

Very early Tuesday morning, Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears added to the Howard rumors with a tweet involving the Spurs, Lakers, Knicks and Celtics.

"Lakers, Spurs, Knicks and Celtics have expressed interest in trading for Utah G-F Josh Howard, a source says. Jazz don't want to make deal."

Judging by the 30 or so comments on the previous post about the rumored Howard deal, Spurs fans can breath at least a slight sigh of relief.  Why the Jazz are reluctant to deal Howard I'm not entirely sure, but it seems they are.  That doesn't mean they won't deal him.  Howard is only signed through the end of this season and you would think that they'd have no problem shipping him out if they don't have to take on a ton salary or if they get the right player back.  The trade deadline is Thursday at two p.m. San Antonio time.  Hopefully the next interview you read will involve a big man.

I think there was more to the deal than what was rumored because I don't think the Spurs would have traded Green for Howard unless there was either more to the deal or the Spurs had another deal intact. Again, I trust the front office.

Trading Green for Howard is not woth it. Heightwise, what will the spurs get? He is not the player the spurs is seeking. They need a big man not shooting guard or small forward. Maybe Kaman, Okofor or Blatche is better.

What about Favors for Bonner and Anderson? That would surely be much more beneficial for the spurs

@dbetto23 lol that's wishful thinking... I remember before the draft people were saying favors has the potential to be as good as Tim Duncan. While that was a stupid presumption, he's still full of potential, they are not going to take 2 of our worst defensive players for a potent big man.
