Parker would like to see Diaw in San Antonio

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

With the writing on the wall the Bobcats' Boris Diaw will be on his way out of Charlotte soon, one thing is for sure, San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker wouldn't mind seeing Diaw wearing a Spurs uniform.

Parker on his radio show, The TP Show, said he would like to see his fellow countryman join San Antonio (via sport24.fr).

"Tony Parker indicated Monday night in his TP Show in RMC he'd like to see Boris Diaw joining him in San Antonio. 'He's in shape. I'm the first to make fun of him when he gains too much weight but right now it's not the case. We're very interested to get him but New York is interested too. We'll see'."

Seeing how New York is spiraling right now, I highly doubt Diaw would want to go to a losing franchise especially playing for the lowly Bobcats.

The Spurs, however, are sitting atop the Southwest Division and hold the second best record in the Western Conference. Add the fact he and Parker have played together for France, it would seem like an easier transition for Diaw.

Project Spurs' Trevor Zickgraf put in his vote to add Diaw to the squad and pointed out he is a very productive player.

First, he can score from a couple different places on the court.  According to the NBA.com Stats Cube, Diaw is shooting 53 percent in the restricted area and 43 percent from mid-range.  33 percent of Diaw's scoring comes in the restricted area, 13 percent comes from inside the paint but outside the restricted zone, 22 percent comes from the mid-range and 30 percent comes from non-corner 3's.  So he shoots from all over, though he probably shouldn't be taking two and a half threes a game.  His defensive rebounding rate is 17 percent (meaning he collects 17 percent of available rebounds) would be good enough for second on the Spurs.  Also, according to Synergy Sports, Diaw ranks 23rd in the league in defending the roll man in the pick and roll.  So there's three areas he'd help the Spurs in.

OK so TP says he would like to see Diaw in San Antonio but what do you have to say Spurs fans? Do you agree with Parker or not?

If the spurs wants to contend for the championship, they MUST sign a big man. After a player buyout or trade doesn't matter. Getting Jhoward is no brainer. He is NOT the guy the spurs needs. I can't imagine why the spurs is so stingy with budget. Do they hope to get one big guy for free?

He will be a terrible fit. Seriously, he is not so undersized but he is much slower than most SF and much weaker defending the post if considered a PF. He's kind of an all-around player but that was when he was wearing PHX uniform. If he comes here he probably can put some numbers for you like 8pts, 4rbs, 3asst but that's all about it. He has nothing to do about winning, he is never a winner. Even I don't like either Blair or Bonner but I think their combination is better than what Diaw could bring.

No trades are going to happen they never do. Which sucks because as much as I like Diaw he is not what the spurs need and yall no it! Were gotta keep dreaming for some decent name will come to SA before the deadline but it won't happen we are sitting at 74 mill and no one is going to take RJs ridic contract, the only worthy guys tradeable are Tiago (who I don't think they will get rid of he's going to be a future star) JA but he's awful, Neal but they got him for cheap and will happy making peanuts for a little while but he will stay cuz he's appreciative and Bonner who is actually a decent piece but he always slumps during the playoffs. Sooo no trades what I see happening is NOTHING, there gonna wait amnesty RJ, give Duncan 10 mill a year starting next season which would leave some spending money for the spurs to get a big man which will happen. Either way we can dream....

@Spat i do think the Spurs will add someone, but it'll be a bought-out player. if the Bobcats can't trade Diaw, they will more than likely buy him out and there's still a chance the Spurs try to bring him in. there is also the chance that Kaman might get bought out as well if the Hornets don't find a trade partner.

as far as trades go, yea, i don't expect anything to happen, but anything is possible. and technically, you can't say the Spurs never do trades at the trade deadline because they did in '08 when they traded Barry and Elson for Kurt Thomas. a move like that could happen, but like i said, i don't expect a trade to happen. it'll be better to add someone after a buy-out and keep the guys we have that know the system already.

I think he could fit in. Think of him this way, he is a matt bonner kind of guy, except he does a little bit more. He does play on the worst team in the NBA. you think anyone is going to play there hearts out? um no, I bet he does come to SA, his mindset will deff change.

Now we do need a back up PG, i read this moning that we may go after dj augustine, hey boris and dj play on the same team. Lets make a trade?? what do you guys think?

Maybe Diaw will play like he gives a damn if he is on the Spurs

Still the question remains, should the SAS go after a pg or a big? Both?

@JeffProjectSpurs I'd say a big. It sucks about tj, but he was only healthy like 14 games and we did ok. Fishing went out and things went downhill...

Tiago, not fishing... Stupid "smart" phone.

Why would anyone want this gigantic scrub on this team? He's like Baron Davis in his work ethic, and like a high school center in his talent.

i would like to see him in SA as well BUT its not going to happen via trade so the only way it happens is if he inst traded and gets a buy out that he is rumored to get. if he is bought out i am 95% positive he comes to SA.

now the odds of a buy out? um 70-30 against it imo. i think he is traded before the deadline and held onto for the rest of the season.
