Report: Spurs' Tony Parker injures eye during bar fight in NYC

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

San Antonio Spurs All-Star point guard Tony Parker sustained an injury to his eye when a bar fight in New York City broke out and he and his girlfriend were near the fracas reportedly started between music stars Chris Brown and Drake.

Parker is in France to begin preparation for the 2012 Olympic games and spoke to the French media (via infobae.com) about the incident.

"I was quietly with my friends when a fight broke out. Bottles started flying everywhere. I tried to protect my girlfriend and I got everything," Parker said, wearing sunglasses to hide the wound.

"The cornea is affected. I cannot do anything for seven days. Wear a therapeutic contact lens and I get drops. I was lucky, that I almost had to get stitches," he added.

Fortunately, TP will be OK and should fully recover in time to play with France in London.

This hasn't been a good start to Parker's summer vacation. First, the Spurs were eliminated from the playoffs by the Thunder after riding a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals and now this.

The good thing is TP wasn't directly involved, however, this injury to his eye won't sit well with the Spurs front office and coaching staff considering he did mention the eye-injury felt bad once he landed in France and sought immediate medical help.

Parker and the French national team will begin training camp on July 20.

What do you have to say Spurs fans about this?

And not that tony was partying, its just that he was partying at 4 O'clock in the morning with idiots like chris brown and got an eye injury while doing it, another reason why spur fans won't respect him as much is they respect tim and manu, but this was still kind of funny.

I don't know if you noticed, but even with all of tony's accomplishments some spurs fans still don't give him as much respect as tim and manu, and this incident  won't help that matter and he wasn't going to some hole in the wall bar at 4 0'clock in the morning he was with drake and chris brown at some bar at 4 o'clock in the morning so yeah, I consider that partying and asking for trouble

Well at least people won't be blaming the lockout and the condensed schedule over this injury..I believe.

After that grueling conference, everyone is entitled to a break. TP is young aand he needs the socials. It seems he will be ok, so what's the big deal?

I wish the injury was just bad enough to keep him out of the olympics. I won't be able to enjoy games involving France, Argentina, or Brazil.

I'm not impressed with Tony's choices after the season ended. He has posted a ton of pictures all of him out partying since about say 2 after game 6.

@JohnAbney The guy has been only basketball and work for the past six or seven months.  There is not anything he can do in terms of basketball now that the season is over.  Seems like he should be able to relax and enjoy his free time for a little while before he has to get back at it again.  He really didn't have much free time at all for the last six months because of the compressed game schedule...seems deserved.  Not sure what you would expect him to do right now...

@saITgeek 2 days after he is eliminated? that gave him enough time to fly home, clean out his locker and haul ass up to NYC to party? 2 weeks, fine, 2 days? thats pretty fast.

what ever, he is a grown man and all that but between playing in the olympics, and this, maybe he should sit his ass at home with his girl and relax.

you dont hear of other guys, manu, tim, those guys going out and partying right off the bat (or at all).

@JohnAbney  @saITgeek  Manu and Timmy are married with children so they are home being husbands and fathers. Tony is young and single and has no one to answer to. I would be doing the same thing if I was him.
