Hanga to workout in San Antonio per agent

Written by Paul Garcia on .

Last year, the San Antonio Spurs selected Adam Hanga of Hungary with the 59th pick in the NBA draft.AH Hanga has been playing overseas, but his agent has now said he will be coming to San Antonio for a two week workout with the Spurs (H/T @DudaSun).

Per Hanga's agent, Giorgos Dimitropoulos' twitter account:

My kid Adam Hanga, drafted last summer, is flying to San Antonio for a 2-week workouts with the Spurs. Special thanks to @assigniamanresa

On Saturday, Jeff Garcia, Bob Gambert of WOAI, and I discussed what the Spurs should do in the offseason. I suggeted they bring in Hanga because he's a 6'7 shooting guard who has a knack for attacking the basket and getting to the foul line. I don't know if this is a serious workout to get him acclimated with the system for the future or if they're really considering bringing him over now, but Hanga is a raw talent that definitely has a lot of upside.

If the Spurs are willing to bring Hanga over and also Nando De Colo of France, what does that say for the future of Danny Green with the team? Green is a restricted free agent and Gary Neal's contract is also on a team option basis this summer.

Here's a video we posted in October of Hanga displaying his athletic ability.

Can he slide between two defenders and finger roll? He is 6'7". Wonder who else was a 6'7" shooting guard with that frame?

Bringing in the Europeans may serve well the Spurs. May I digress from the issue and present some very intriguing rumors? First, Bonner to the Heats for Joel Anthony. The Heats need a floor spacer and the Spurs need a big player. Of late, with the return of Bosh, Anthony has been hugging the pine. After Bosh, the Heat prefers Haslem. 2nd, Why not send Splitter for Klieza? The Raptors need a big guy and the Spurs need Klieza. Or better still trade Splitter for the 8th round draft and pick a sg or long, big, young and aggressive player. 3rd, trade Jackson for Mavin Williams. The Hawks need a veteran leader who can guard, pass, rebound and shoot the ball and the Spurs need a young guy like Williams, or trade for the Hawks draft pick and sign Fab Melo. 4th, trade Joseph to the Magics and get Daniel Orton. The Magic need a backup pg. Both are not being used. Joseph is rarely used and often sent to the d-league and Orton seats most of the time or, trade for Zeller.

@rtesoro440 all that you wrote came straight from bleacher report...congratulations

@RyanGeorge  @rtesoro440 Splitter for Kleza is an absoultely NO. Kleza is less athletic and over-weight SF, he cannot defend the perimeter nor the paint. Why trade for another Bonner type of player?

Well with Manu on the verge of retiring possibly next year and a summer full of international basketball I see him get getting very limited minutes so I think we'll see a lot more of these young guys out there playing.  We already saw Manu get very limited minutes during the season and the playoffs (he had a little over 20 minutes).  I see Manu as more of a mentor.

Can y'all imagine the Spurs making serious roster moves with all of their European talent?! Man I've been wanting Hanga in the Silver and Black since they drafted him. I think Lorbek can be a good add to the system. So far all the moves the Spurs are making are signaling them getting better through their drafted talent rather than Splurging in free agency. It's kinda like getting 3-4 players for the price of 1 free agent sized contract. I think the spurs should still resign Danny and Boris however but possibly bait a team with Bonner, Blair, or Neal for a mid rounder or a lottery pick. I think they should keep Splitter for 1 more season to see what he's got after a full camp. I can definitely see the spurs trying to stock up on some youth and I think Hanga is a good idea along with DeColo. Can't say that Lorbek is young but this could be another guy that makes the Spurs look like geniuses for trading Hill. I mean we already have talent in Leonard but geez wouldn't that be something if Lorbek could really surprise us. I'd like to see Richards over too but I'm getting a sense that the Spurs wants bring him over until he shows that he is a mature player.

Adam Hanga is 23, hopefully we get him here in at least 2 years. I don't want another 28 year old jumping the pond.

@sahoko_i I suppose so, from what I've heard he'd be a good asset to the team. He's 6'7", we need tall wing players and he fits the bill.
