Report: Spurs show interest in Ilyasova

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

The NBA free agency period is in full swing and if you are like me, you are probably getting whiplash.

Sifting through the reports on possible player movement, the San Antonio Spurs are also in the mix of reports when it comes to attracting free agents.

According to Fred Kerber of the New York Post, San Antonio is interested in Bucks free agent Ersan Ilyasova.

Fred Kerber: #Nets‬ one time high radar target Ersan Ilyasova drawing interest from Bucks, Cavs, Raptors, Spurs

Ilyasova would help solve the Spurs size issues. The 6'10" power forward averaged career-highs of 13 points, 8.8 rebounds, 0.7 blocks and shot 49% from the field last season with the Bucks.

And while Ersan would help the Spurs in the middle, however, one has to wonder how this will work if reports are true Erazem Lorbek will be making his way to San Antonio.

Tim Duncan will continue his play at center, Kawhi Leonard will start at small forward, which leaves either Ilyasova or Lorbek off the bench. Will either be OK with that role after being starters? Perhaps. Tiago Splitter accepted a role off the bench for the Spurs after being a started overseas for years.

Moreover, after having a career-season statistically, Ilyasova might be looking for a pay day which could price him out of the Spurs' reach.

What do you think Spurs fans? Should Spurs go after Ersan or pass?

I would like to go after Ilyasova and Gerald Green, Anthony Randolph, and try to resign Danny Green as well. GG has good potential now that his head is straight, Ilyasova and Randolph would help with size and rebounding, trade Blair, Bonner forget about Anderson, Mills bring Lorbeck in.

@dtootall Umm, I dont' think that we can afford all of those guys. If we get ILYASOVA, we can't aford camby and green as well. I don't we will even be able to afford Ilyassova. Camby will most likely sign with the Heat. He wants a ring

@dtootall you forgot to put the total salary for such a team.  Keep in mind Camby wants 3 mil Duncan will want 11mil, and Green will command between 4-7 mil.  Switch Colo with Denmon.  Colo a wing player not PG. Denmon not making the team unless he shows PG potential.

I have to be honest I forgot that the Bucks were still in the NBA so I have not seen this kid play but from looking at videos of him he has Spurs written all over his face.  He can shot the midrange jumper, rebound, and he is a garbage man.  I would love to have this kid.  Quote from Bucks GM "If we bring Ersan back, obviously that's going to affect our free agency, some of our flexibility and our ability to go out and sign other players," Hammond said. "If we lose Ersan, it gives us quite a bit of flexibility as we move forward.  "That's the position we're in. We want Ersan back. But if we lose him, I think we can get help."  Sound like they do not want the kid.  I think Ersan is a back plan if the spurs are unable to sign Diaw and a pretty good one at that.

Would be a good pickup if we can afford him. Sign and trade Anderson packaged with Blair or Bonner (maybe even both)!

he would be great BUT its financially unrealistic. he isnt signing for less then 8mil. only way to make it work is a sign and trade with blair+bonner which im ok with but are the bucks?

@JohnAbney not sure the Bucks would be ok with it. maybe if we threw in a 1st rounder and/or draft rights to one or two of our Euro guys, they'd consider it. i don't know though.

@RG8907 the only thing that somewhat works in this trades favor is the fact the bucks dont have a lot of bigs. dalembert/sanders at C and gooden/udoh at PF and thats pretty much it. john henson? they just dont have an active guy like blair. bonner would likely get bought out.

i also think if bonner isnt traded then he gets amnestied. he is relatively cheap but if the spurs are over the tax line he is gone one way or another.

I would like to have this guy if we could afford him. I don't know why people still talk about trading parker and manu. We need them while Tim is still playing. We were 2 games from the finals; not time to blow the team up. Parker was our most cnsistent player all year.

@Coxcr20 I'm not for trading Parker, but I'm sure the FO will entertain offers if they come through. He played outstanding for us last season and while he would be great to keep, his trade value should be exceptionally high now....

@spursfan80 Well his trade value is high........because he is our best player. If we are trying to win one more in the Duncan era, we need to keep the big 3 together. I actually think the Camy scenerio would be good. We coudl limit his minutes and keep his old butt healthy for the playoffs. I would like to get him and Diaw back.

Of all the realistic players available in free agency, Ilyasova is the one I would like the Spurs to go after. Can't see it happening. PS. please no Josh Howard, I watched the games where we played him last season, regular season & playoffs and he was awful.

All I gotta say all teams are gonna make changes and some teams are gonna make big changes San antonio if they really want duncan to win another ring they will make some good changes even if you gotta get rid of one of the big three like Parker if they really worried about his eye trade him you sure gonna get something good in return like a younger point guard someone good you might get a player or two for him if you really wanna be you do what you have to o is spend the extra money I say go for it do whatever to make the team tough

@Sab83 I'm sure the FO is looking at that and all possibilities. I don't know that they are actively shopping him, but if there were a decent deal for him they would listen and consider it. Apparently both he and Ginobili were trade bait last year.

@Sab83 no. Tony Parker is the best player we have, it would be out of this world stupid to trade him.

@Spursforever69  @Sab83 Not only only that but the loyalty to the Core3 is bigger than we think especially for an MVP finals who was part of the reason we got 3 rings from them. Pop will never trade Parker.
