According to Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated and Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports!, San Antonio Spurs restricted free agent Danny Green has agreed to sign a new three-year deal worth 12 million dollars (fully guaranteed) according to their sources. After the reports surfaced, the San Antonio Express News also received confirmation from Green's agent Bill Duffy according to Mike Monroe.
Green himself took to Twitter and said he and the Spurs have unfinished buisness to win another NBA championship together.
Though Green had a rough Western Conference Finals series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, he showed he had value with San Antonio by becoming the starting shooting guard through the majority of the regular season because of his ability to guard both point guards and shooting guards, but also contribute on offense by hitting his three pointers at a high percentage.
The only two teams rumored to be interested in Green during free agency were the Boston Celtics and Utah Jazz. With the Celtics signing Jason Terry and possibly Courtney Lee, and the Jazz trading for Marvin Williams, Green's best chance seemed to be with the Spurs. Green also told our own Jeff Garcia two weeks ago in New York City that the Spurs were his number one option in free agency.
With Green back on board, the Spurs still have to take care of re-signing Tim Duncan, possibly Boris Diaw, and maybe Patty Mills if no other teams throw lucrative offers at him. The new question is whether the Spurs are still interested in bringing French guard Nando De Colo over since they seem to have a log jam at the shooting guard position with Manu Ginobili, Green, and Gary Neal. De Colo could still play backup point guard to Tony Parker.
I'm with Retro....DeColo and a big. Kaman hopefully!! I can't see Bonner and / or Blair still on team for next season. They do have value along with Neal. I like Neal alot, but if Denmon shows enough, he could very well provide almost the same shooting and probably better defense. With Mills around shooting also, this could be an acceptable and even upgraded situation. Deal Bonner and Neal for Kaman. Bring in Anthony Randolph or Solomon Alabi or a Henry Sims also to develop and provide defensive length.
This is great news Spurs nation ! Go Spurs Go ! He proved himself all season long now he can get comfterbal and really do some damage !
Is Green worth the contract of $12m/3 years. Seems the Spurs are out of options. No new player coming in and no chips to trade. So all the guys are on board. Western confeence runnerup or worse for the Spurs.
A little more than his true value, but the Spurs cannot find other good players coming so keep him is probably a 'must-do.'
Good job Spurs, now let's make sure Duncan doesn't jump ship... lol! I think resigning Danny was a good thing. He did good for us last year. He got stage fright or just wasn't clicking during WCF, but he'll only improve from here! I think it was a smart re-sign.
12 mil for 3 years fully guaranteed, hmmmmmm sure sounds like about 3 mil to much but as long as he IMPROVES it will be worth it.
If he improves! What "IF" he does NOT?
@rtesoro440 he might not improve, he is still tradeable by the deadline if need be. now go grab your alter ego WOW and stop double teaming us with your posts.
